Psychosis and Mysticism

Posted on 12/13/08, 09:18 pm
Greetings!!! Through my readings and searches, I seem to gather that psychosis is to mysticism what drowning is to swimming. It seems that the psychotic drowns in the same place where the mystic would swim. I find this concept interesting and thought provocating and want to find out what it can lead me and us to further understand hopefully. Thanking u. Peace and blessings.

Hi there M.E. I had replied to this disscussion on another post and if anyone is interested in my spiritual/psychosis/mystical experience's feel free to read my journal....
I was reading about the Chakra's tonight and came across some information I've not heard about before in regards to the Crown Chakra's characteristics of being excessive or too open (chakra spins too fast) -psychotic or manic depressive, confused sexual expression, frustrated, and a sense of unrealized power. A blocked chakra (spins sluggishly or not at all) is constantly exhausted, can't make decisions and has no sense of 'belonging". A balanced chakra which I am trying to achieve (chakra maintains equilibrium and spins at correct vibrational speed) a person has a magnetic personality, achieves "miracles" in life, transcendent and is at peace with themselves.

I'm thinking about how Jungian symbolism is supposed to tap into a universal unconscious (I'm a little skeptical but it's an interesting theory) and during psychosis we can get 'loosening of the associations" where we make associations with things in an unusual way. Like one thing reminds us of another in a very haphazard way. I don't have a fully formulated theory here.. but I'm thinking that we might be trying to configure our own set of symbols to perceive reality, or come up with meaning, but that it gets jumbled up.
Like how dream images can mean something but if we're on medication, our dreams go into overdrive. Our unconscious symbol-making-machinery ramps up.
So in an overactive state, it might feel very 'meaningful' yet it could be just like a movie that's very loud and bright, but random, perhaps. Or one we've seen before that's been etched in our minds vividly and gets pulled up when we're very stimulated.
