Beta E-support group
Posted on 08/26/09, 08:51 am
Anybody who suffers from an eating disorder knows that recovery is hard and you can’t do it alone. The main component is support from a therapist, family and peers. But many times reality isn’t as simple and we don’t get the support we need when we need it or isn’t enough. That is why I decided to try this e-support group, to provide extra support in between your sessions with your primary therapist or to extend and extra hand when the disease comes strong and you are all alone. I am a psychotherapist and an expert on Eating disorders and it is my passion to help people with food problems in their recovery.
How is this group different from a free peer support group? The difference is that eating disorders are tricky and without the lead of an expert the group could end up being more detrimental than helpful for your recovery. You need somebody with a professional background moderating and helping you to cope with those emotions so you don’t confuse support with feeding the disease. That is what I offer you.
You will be able to dedicate time to work on your recovery and prevent a relapse from the convenience of your house or work place (where the real battle is anyway) or to seat and wait vulnerable for the ED to make its regular visit to your life.
This group will meet on Fridays at 12:00pm (ET) beginning on September, 2009
If you are interested in this group, contact me at isabelbk08@gmail.com to schedule your free intake appointment. There is no compromise to sign up after this. To learn more about me visit www.dcvacounseling-psychotherapy.com
Cost: $25.00 per session.
Duration: 1 1/2 hour
Important notice: Since this is a beta group it will be an open group until I found out how many people are interested on an open group or if people can/prefer to commit for a certain amount of time (6 to 8 weeks which would be better for the benefit of the group and my personal recommendation). Depending on interest and feedback from members the requirements, date or number of sessions might change.
These times are set for Washington, DC (USA) at EST. To see what time these groups are offered in your location, please go to http://www.timeanddate.com/worldcl...
Disclaimer: IN NO WAY does distance counseling replace a therapeutic relationship based on face-to-face interactions. One main disadvantage is that the therapist CANNOT verify information, consulting first-hand with other service providers such as the client’s primary care physician, and does not have visual cues with which are all basic elements of a therapeutic intervention. Therefore, therapist solely relies on client’s honesty. Each person is responsible for making the decision about which form of therapy to pursue and needs to be open and honest with the therapist about the facts of their situation so that the therapist may guide them for their own best interest.
