Question about 1st month...
Posted on 12/31/08, 01:30 pm
I am 12 days post op. I am currently eating soft foods and have had some crackers which basically dissolve in my mouth. I am just curious to how many calories you all were consuming the first month? I am totalling about 500 a day. Does that seem about right..I am also eating about 4 oz of food per meal.

at 12 days I was still on soft pureed food (cream soups, pudding, jello) I didn't chew anything until 3 weeks post op, it sucked. My nut said that I should be getting about 1000-1100 calories a day... I know that is hard at this stage... and I really struggled. It does get easier, but I am 11 weeks post op and am still struggling with getting in all of my calories, and battling the food demons. -

When I was where you are at I didn't count calories or watch fats or any of that. I was only supposed to makes sure I got in 50-60g of protein a day and drink my water. I'm now 18 months post op and am doing fairly well. I'd lost from 288 down to 184 and gain back about 15-20 lbs and have been at that same weight now for several months. Everyone says I look great and I feel great. I still have to watch how much I eat and what I eat and get exercise but it is all worth it. If I had to tell anyone if I would do it again to help myself yes I would. I'm here if you or anyone needs to talk. HUGS -

Hey! I just joined about 1 minute ago and you sound like me wondering about calories. I am almost 4 weeks post op and feel like I started too early eating things and rushing. Now I eat about 600-700 calories a day and think it may be too much because I have only lost 16 pounds. I get discouraged by the numbers and feel like I think about food more now than I did pre-surgery. -

Hi i am one week out of surgery so this topic is very interesting, i find it very difficult to eat more than a 1/4 tin of soup twice a day and thats it , with all the drink i have to drink in between meals i cant fit anymore in and as for all the medication (yuk) to fill me up theres no more room for anything else , i have another 3 weeks on liquids only , why do some people only have 1 week on liquid then onto puree food ?
looking forward to chatting with some of you from Lisa good luck to u all , we can do it -

I'm three weeks post op and I think a eat a little too much. I feel great the pain in my knee are gone, and I have lost 26lbs the first week after surgery. I was told by my doctor to eat 500-600 cal a day, and to eat soft foods. I have to watch my cal which I don't think that I do that well so I have to start being more careful. -

Im new here, 3 weeks out from surgery. Since the first of august,Ive lost 30#. Im moving along pretty fast on the diet, with DR permission. Im now eating soft real food, I hate to say this, cause I see many people struggling at this stage, but Ive not had any problems. No pain, no nausea, no vomiting, no lactose intolerance, no dumping. I almost feel guilty about it, but Im feeling great, and I have had no tolerance issues with anything Ive eaten. I wish everyone the best of luck and will be following this group for advise and wisdom -
