Chronic diseasePosted on 10/17/09, 09:42 am
I am 27 years old and have been living with lympedema of both feet for the past 12 years. This is a condition that results from either chemotherapy or either one is born with it. I was born with under developed lymph system and that has resulted in the swelling of both of my feet and legs and it causes pain. Being a woman at that age with this condition has made my dating life sooo difficult. My boyfriend broke up with me 2 years ago because of my condition and have not dated ever since. I wonder if anyone will ever like me and knowing that i will be like that for the rest of my life ,it is killing,. I am so lonely everyone needs someone to love. The thought of starting a family one day scares because preganancy makes the condition worse. Is any one out there going through the same.

This condition had such a huge impact in my life. I feel like there is a void from within. My friends of the same age are either married or in a stable relationships.

Thank you for listening.

We are always here to listen. I am so sorry for what you're going through. What kind of treatment are you getting? Is there a support group in your area with others who are going through the same thing? Are you able to work & go out with your friends? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just trying to get a better understanding for what you are going through.

    Take care,

Thanks, yes i go for some therapy but my therapist does not know much about the condition since i am the first patient . I am part of the lymphedema network on DS. I learn one thing or two from there. I joined this group because i feel like getting more ideas on how people cope. Chronic disease can be depressing and i do not want to live my life depressed.

You seem to have a positive attitude & that's the way to start. :-) You're right, some days are easier than others. I deal with chronic pain & fatigue. I have been having a tough time myself lately so I can really identify with you. It's like with anything else, just take it one day at a time. I take antidepressents but sometimes I swear it's just a sugar pill! I'm always hopeful that tomorrow will be better!

Today is starting out to be a good day. I have many different chores to work on as I am able to. The priority is to try & finish the laundry. Unfortunately it means several trips up & down the stairs. But I'll do it as many times as I can. Then I will try to find something else to do. Or I could just take a nap! LOL Hope you have a good day!

    HUGS,
