Yaz IS helping

Posted on 10/01/08, 12:37 pm
I have been iffy before on Yaz birth control, but now I have been on it about a year, and it seems to really be helping...but it took this long.

Back in April or May, I had an annual gyno appt., and my Dr. asked "Do you like the Yaz?" and I had to think about it. I ended up giving her a tepid, "Yeah, it's OK."

But recent events have shown me that Yaz is holding its own--or at least, it is now after being on it for so long.

If you are new to a PMDD diagnosis, I know that isn't much comfort because we want things that help NOW, not months down the line.

But for those who want to try Yaz, I'd say get on it, stay on it, give it a year. And of course this isn't the only treatment--you can try other things simultaneously.

I woul dlike to hear more about being on Yaz. I just started taking it for PMDD and I have bad headaches that come & go throughout the day. Has anyone else had this problem & does it go away? Other than that I am a little irritable in the mornings, but that passes fairly quickly. I am also wondering other issues you may have had.
Any and all info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!!

Hi! I took YAZ for a spell. I got the headaches really bad! Everyday. I wish that I wouldn't have had them. I lost 5 pounds when I started taking it and my periods went from 7 to 10 days to 2 days long. It is hard to say if it helped with mood....because of the headaches. I never had that problem with BCP until after my son was born. I think I might be perimenopausal-I get hot flashes most mornings. Like right now!

Aw, that sucks, you guys. I am so sorry it gives you headaches. I have never had that problem. But then, I have had all kinds of problems on every other kind of BC I have tried previously, and--you know, everybody's different--I think I just finally lucked out and found the right thing for me.

I'm perimenopausal, too, and one other thing I love about Yaz is the merely 4-day break for a period. Most months, I don't even have one! (my gyno says this is normal) ...So, lovin' that!

I am glad to read that a fellow PMDD pal is getting relief!

My doctor will not prescribe YAZ for me because of the associated complaints of headaches in users. I actually thought I would take the headaches over all the other crap that PMDD comes with anyday but I guess doctor knows best in this particular situation. I am struggling to find some sort of relief and have taken all sorts of anti-depressants with no avail. I am sure there is something out there!

    Really really happy for you!

Dang! If it weren't for you guys, I would not have heard there was this problem with Yaz. Almost a year ago, I started Lisinopril to help with migraine headaches (I've had since I was 15, before birth control of any type and waaaay before I started Yaz), and it seems to be working. Perhaps it is also keeping Yaz-related headaches away for me.

Welcome
