Thank you all...

Hello, my name is David and I want to thank you all for this group and for showing me the world through your eyes as well as the great pictures too. Thank you very much.

I was wondering, does anyone have any tips or tricks for using a digital camera? I bought one sometime ago and I am still trying to figure how to get the best picture for what I am taking. Thanks and all the best to you all and your families too.

David

Hi! When I went digital, I went to a park and just shot frame after frame. Take a flower or a plant and shoot it from multiple angles and distances. Do the same with people passing by. Just take lots of photos.

Now, when you get home, download Picasa if you don't already have it. http://picasa.google.com/

Once you have downloaded all the photos you shot that day, go through them frame by frame, comparing good shots to bad ones. Determine where your camera's strengths and weaknesses are and where your own are. Take mental notes: This worked, this didn't, flash is best here, not there - you get the idea. Now, armed with this knowledge go back to the same park and shoot more photos, this time using what you've learned.

If you don't have one yet, go to Wal-Mart and get an inexpensive tripod. That alone will improve your shots a great deal.

Above all, keep shooting! Go to parades, rodeos, sporting events and teach yourself to take crowd photos and on-the-move shots.

Be sure to use rechargeable batteries and a charger. You'll want your batteries all charged before a trip and after a hard day of shooting photos, you'll want to recharge in your hotel room at night.

Also, get a spare media card. rather than have one 2-gig card, buy a second or third 1-gig card. you may find yourself in a circumstance where it is necessary to hand over a card (I took pics of a crime once as it happened and had to surrender them to the cops).

Last tip for the day: look up the phone numbers for your local TV news stations and newspapers and keep them handy. You never know when you might find yourself with that breaking news photo that no one else has. I can tell you that it was way cool to see a front page photo in the newspaper and the words "Photo Credit: Bear Jones" underneath!

HI David, glad you made it!!! Good to see you! I hope sometime you will share your pictures with us :-)

Old man bear, this happend to me, with the photo and the news a few years ago. It was after a bad ocean storm and I was down along the ocean taking photos. I got one of a guy surfing on the big waves. I sent it in to our local tv news and they showed it on their news show. I had forgotten about it, and then the phone here started ringing!

Thank you both very much for your help and kind words. How do I bring my photos over here? I have them in my profile and will they be gone when I do transfer them to here? Thank you again.

    Hi David,
When you downloaded your photos on your profile, did you pull them from a "document" or "picture" folder? If you have a folder with your favorite photos in your documents, you should be able to download them here by pulling them from the folder. I hope this makes sense.

Let me check on how to download them here and i'll get back to you. I can't remember.
    Hugs,
    kathie

OkayDavid, when you are on this groups' page, be sure you are in the "group home" page. Then scroll down to where it says Photos. To the right of that it will say "view all". If you click this it should walk you through the steps...........I hope.

    My fingers are crossed :-)
