Baby Rabbit

Well back in June I was told I was getting a Rabbit for my birthday, well 4 months on and we were in a position to get one, so kept an eye out. Went to our local Pets at Home shop where they run an adoption programme as well as selling baby rabbits. We were originally looking for a lop, but then saw 2 baby rabbits 10 weeks old in the adoption section that weren't lop, and immediately fell in love especially with the smallest of them. Well they wanted them both to go together because they were very close. So we decided we would have both of them.

You wouldn't know they were brothers and the same age, one weighs in at 1.03 kg, the other 444 grams !!! There is a massive size distance between them. The pet shop and we have observed them, and the bigger one isn't bullying the smallest one, isn't stopping him eating, and the little one is eating lots and lts, has a fantastic appetite.

There were 3 in the litter, and they brought all 3 in to be sexed and to decide which to keep and which to put up for adoption. The one they decided to keep was the runt of the litter, it was blind and had other problems. Can you get 2 runts in a litter ?

Anyone else come across this before, having one a lot smaller?

Any suggestions on anything we can feed it in order to help it bulk up. We are weighing it regularly (every day at present) to check it doesn't loose any weight and it is more or less maintaining it's weight, just not putting anything on.

Is it possible that the little one has a dwarf gene as a throw back even though Mum and Dad weren't dwarfs?

Thanks

Welcome
