Coping with the latest ripoff with coffee....

Posted on 08/26/09, 03:15 pm
I'm incensed with the rise in the price of ground columbian coffee. The way I see it, there is no way to win at this game because they are now charging extra for this blend. Even my trusted walmart is in the game! I'm trying to deal with this by cutting back on the quantity I brew and have come to discover that the less coffee you brew (cup wise), the greater the coffee to water ratio you use. In essence, you are wiser to make more and just reheat rather than brew a fresh small pot during the day. Hope this helps.

I can't believe how high coffee can be either!! I don't drink it but I do buy it when I go in the store for a couple that watches the kids.

I've started doing the same thing. I used to pour out the old coffee (no MORE!) and make a fresh 1/2 a pot, now I just reheat the old pot if there is some left. Walmart has the big cans of coffee for $6.00 which is almost 4 dollars cheaper than the grocery store. Although I hate contributing to Walmart's business, I have to admit that they are cheaper than almost every grocery store on most items.

    Sorry, it's the Maxwell House that's $6.00.

Yeah, I agree, but the problem with making more and reheating is ... it tastes like total crap LOL don't you think? I do it sometimes but I never like it. I'd rather switch to a teabag instead. I treat coffee now like more of a treat. sometimes I'll buy the cheaper coffee and put a couple of teaspoons of something special in it, like the international coffee powder, or some cinammon, etc.

this week an order came from gevalia. I'd forgotten about it. I'm on their most extreme shipment (when you have to order like 1 x a year or they'll remove you). I don't mind being removed but I do LOVE that coffee as a special treat. so it came and I did not want to send it back! LOL it is so heavenly, it's worth the cost now and then I suppose. right now I'm drinking the organic they offer. so smooth!

sorry, that's probably NOT what you wanted to hear right?

I've taken to daytime brews for myself of 2 heaping spoonfuls of columbian to make 1 1/2 cups...tides me over as I tend to sip on it IF it is a quality cup of coffee.....I got the Maxwell House columbian in walmart for 7.48 which was a steal right about now with the prices I am faced with dealing with! I wonder if there is a cheaper alternative online.............hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....will check out lol!
