daughter admitted to oxy+heroin use
Posted on 10/11/09, 12:45 pm
After 6 months of craziness and lies my 17 (18 in 2 mo) old finally admitted that she is doing oxy and heroin on a weekly basis. her 20 yearold brother and one of her old friends bascically did an intervention on her yesterday and she's agreed to go to treatment. Problem is the two places we had checked out and are ready to go with don't have beds right now-2 week wait. We don't have alot of options because of where we live and hger being an adolescent. I am as anxious as I've ever been at the thought of keeping her for two weeks all the while giving her time to change her mind and sneak to see her druggie friends. AHHH!We live in ca, so she has to want to go, they can sign themselves out .any suggestions on how to kep her going for 2 weeks?

All I can say is welcome to my world. I'm dealing with basically the same issue, and it is very, very difficult. -

Hi Chacy. So very sorry to hear about your daughter. I was in the same situation over a year ago with my now 17 year old. She was mainlining coke and using anything else she could pop in her mouth. She was just barely 15. Luckily the Mental Health Department through our school system, and our insurance co. were able to give help in getting her to a group home until we got her into a residential treatment facility. Took us almost 2 months and she spent one month at the group home but was too sick for them to be able to handle her, and then a month in a Psyc hospital until a bed opened up. Don't know what to tell you, but keep checking the web for places in your area, and also the Mental Health clinics there. Keep asking the questions, because you may get lucky. Enlist the help of your son and her old friend to help you. What an AWESOME thing they did!!!!! They sound like they love her and want to help!! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers tonite. Peace and blessings to you all. D. -

I almost can't beleive it but I got a scholarship for her to a place in Malibu 1 block from the beach. We are taking her 2morrow. I just pray we get her there and she doesn't try to run. She panics and freaks out so we r on eggshells. this place is amazing though. i've never vacationed anywhere this nice before, still not sure it's real! -

Hi Chacy, what is this place called, I'd like to look into it for my daughter? I feel for you and would like to warn you it gets harder not easier. I've found this group to be my only out let and hope you will use it to vent too. It's so hard when you find out. You feel helpless, and you are. Only they can change and I realize this and it's why I'm having such a hard time cause I don't know the future. But what can a mother do but what we all are doing, trying everything??? My heart goes out to all of you and your families!!!!!!!! -

Chacy, I hope things work out and you get her there. My daughter had to wait to get into her rehab for like two weeks also. But they tested her like every three days and if she wasn't clean she would go to the end of the line. She wanted the help so she stayed clean. Stay strong!!! -

Chacy, I pray this works out for your daughter. My heart goes out to you. My son just finished his rehab out in CA as well. He is now in a sober living house there. This is a life long struggle for all of us. I go to Alanon mtgs, but the truth be told. This site has been such a tremendous amount of support for me personally. Prayers to you and your family. -

Pammy I wish I would have known more about the Sober Living house after rehab. I hope it works out for your son, my prayers are with you.
I know it is a struggle but it all seems easier to struggle here. (HUGS) -

Try and find a sober living house that is non profit and not run by the state. They have a lot stricker rules than extended rehabs, and zero tolerance. I ran a sober living home for a few years, and we had strict rules. The first 30 days there was not check out for overnights. And we did random drug testing and whenever they had vistors or overnights also.
The charge for these places is a fraction of what most commercial or state run places charge. And even those who cannot afford it until they get a job can work off their room and board. In the meantime, I would insist on daily meetings at least one a day in a 12 step free program like N.A. or A.A.
After many years of rehabs and costing my employers over 300,000 dollars I did not stop for me I needed to be in a place with others that had been where I was and were now clean and sober and helping others. all of our staff were recovering and our recovery rate of success was very good.
The bottom line however will be if the person wants it. And I have found that the expensive treatment programs work no better than any other for less. and no shortage of patients.
Welcome
