The Secret Lives of Bees is a movie that is out right now. I read the book about 7 years ago, after my late sister read it. We discussed parts in it. We both loved the book. I went to see the movie a couple of weeks ago by myself. I felt my sister was with me enjoying it. I sobbed all the way through the movie. Not because there are that many sad parts, but because it reminded me of Janet.
But, I digress. The movie is excellent. I recommend reading the book first. The setting is during the Johnson administration in South Carolina. It shows how deeply the feelings of racial hatred went.
Now, we have African Americans coming into the White House. It's amazing how much things have changed in my lifetime. I am overjoyed about this.
Of course, I know there is still racial hatred. The KKK is still very much active. We will pprobably always have racial hatred prejudice of some kind, but we're taking steps in the right direction.
I recommend the movie.
