What's your favorite childhood memory?

Posted on 10/23/09, 02:23 pm
Mine would have to be playing kickball or basketball with the other neighborhood friends.

What ever happened to those days when kids went outside to play with the neighborhood kids. Now all kids seem to want to do is to be couch potatos and play video games.

We use to play kick the can....20 or more kids....until past sunset, or until we couldn't see or our parents got really angry. It took at lease 3 yells for us.

But my first thought was putting baseball cards on my bike so it would make that noise? Anyone else do this? This thought came to me as I'm currently looking through my card collection and if only I could have just "one" of those Mickey Mantle cards that I used on my bike.....LOL!

As for kids....mine never even rode bikes. The oldest learned how, but never enjoyed it. The youngest didn't have any desire to learn. I have no idea why they are so different than we are, but I do know our parents said the exact same thing about us....right? :-)

No childhood memories here, but I can attest to the fact that my kids are different than my grandkids. The grands BEG to ride their bikes, go to the park and generally be out-of-doors. They are also profficient computer whizzes and video game geniuses. So I guess they are a good blend.

Like Cheryl, things that I can say were happy in my childhood are few & far between.....I guess it was after I learned to save a penny here & there by collecting soda bottles & found it took $1 an hour to go to the riding stables & getting to ride for one hour I also spent a LOT of time cleaning stables of my friend who owned horses...for this, I got to ride free & they thought it was a great tradeoff as they didn't have to do it & letting me ride was a small price to pay.. This was my free time where I could be me & only the countyside & the horse knew what I was thinking & did not criticize me for it.

    HUGS & LOVE,
    Charli

Going to the farmer's market with my Grandpa - he would take me on his bike and I would ride in a little basket seat (hey no pun indented :)

Since the topic resurfaced, hope I can add another one....probably the actual "best".

From about 8 to 12 spent my summers with grandparents in Scranton, PA. I loved it there....they didn't fight and everynight I sat on the comfy porch in my pj's eating an ice cream cone, watching the traffic on the side street.

Yep, think that's my best :-)

I don't have much in the way of memories from my childhood. I do remember once making creepy crawlers and putting some bugs under my Aunts napkin. I really scared her, it was funny. I also remember my great grandmother with love and fondness, she took care of me when I was a child. I played huggell with her alot. Those are about it for my childhood memories, at least what I can remember.

going out for penny candy with my Uncle. He would buy me the 25 cent variety bag. I would holler at the lady "Hey candy lady! No squirell candy in my bag please!" I hated that crap. I liked the dots on the paper best.

When I was three, we got my first dog, Pretzel. That was the first thing he ate, when he came into the house. He was just a small puppy and his tummy hit the steps, when he went up them!! It was one of the happiest days of my life!!!!
And then, when I was a bit older, reading all those colored books of fairy tales. The Red book of Fairy Tales, the Blue book of Fairy Tales, etc.
