Coupla good books about parents

Posted on 01/12/09, 10:00 am
We returned from a Christmas where my mother had to totally flip out once, and found Amazon.com boxes which happened to contain books Matt had ordered for work. I confiscated them and read them, and find them pretty helpful.

1) "If You Had Controlling Parents: How to Make Peace with Your Past and Take Your Place in the World" by Dan Neuharth

2) "Toxic Parents: Overcoming Their Hurtful Legacy and Reclaiming your Life" by Dr. Susan Forward

"Toxic Parents" covers a variety of types of parents, including Controllers, but I think is more for if you were physically and/or sexually abused. "If You Had..." of course focuses on the Controllers, but also dips into sexual abuse.

Just once, was your mother not feeling well?? :) I know not funny! My mum is coming to "help" me after my surgery. We are so thrilled. Shawn, about flipped his lid. He said, "Oh great, now I have to take care of her too!" He begged or rather griped at me to call her and tell her to come when I was feeling better. Yea, Okay just give her more ammunition for her pity party of me not seeing her often enough! No thanks, I don't have the energy.

Thanks for the info on the books. #1 I might need to take a peak at!

No, that was actually hilarious!!! ROTFLMAO. You got a point, there.

OMG, we so know what you mean. I am, you know, merely thinking of having back surgery, and my mom called ME to tell me when I do it she and dad will come here for 10 days.

I still have not scheduled any surgery. ;-)

I can understand not wanting to schedule it for that reason. I felt like I should call and tell my mom about the upcoming surgery. I never dreamed that she would want to "help out!" I think I am going to take the "Four Christmases" approach from now on!
Have you seen Four Christmases? It is about wanting to avoid your family, really funny stuff! We laughed so hard!

I so do not want to have this surgery, but I am tired of taking meds. I only take them in the morning, usually. The thought of being addicted to something, besides Dr.Pepper scares me. And I am so tired of hurting!!
I have to be there at 5:30 in the morning! Ugh!! I am so not a morning person, especially without my Sonic Dr.Pepper!

Also, I probably will need to vent until, I believe Sunday!
Hmmmm, four days compared to ten....if you need to sneak out the window or back door let me know. :)

I used to be a getaway driver in my former life. hehehe

I haven't seen the movie, but heard what the story is. The critics panned it, but millions went to see it and found it funny! Hmm, must be some reason it resonates with people, right?!?

Anyway. WOW - what day is it you go for surgery? What hopsickle? And, tell me again, what is the outlook for your procedure? See, another reason I can't make up my mind is with my surgery there is only a "chance" it will help. What have they told you about what you can expect in terms of real relief?

Well, the nice thing about 5:30 is, you know how they won't let you eat before a surgery...at 5:30 skipping breakfast is easy. I'm not a morning person, either, but make me wait til noon to have breakfast and then see how cranky I get, ya know?

Hey, that's great--my own experienced getaway driver! You just need to know the route from my house to Cheeseburger in Paradise. They make awesome "electric lizards", and if my mom is staying that long, I'm gonna require a coupla rounds.

I went yesterday, on the 14th at the Bone and Joint Hospital across from Saint Anthony. There are no guarentees, but the doctor was pretty confident that it will fix the problem.

He told Shawn that my tailbone was very mobile, which it shouldn't have been at all. So we are all very hopeful! I just got home about an hour ago, he kept me overnight. I am very thankful, because my bladder was so full I had to be catherized. I tried for almost two hours to go. I am pretty drugged up right now, so I hope that I am making sense.

Are you talking about the one in Hawaii or Edmond? Is Hawaii the one you want to go to??? Otherwise, I can mapquest it! :)
I have never had an Electric Lizards, sounds interesting, but good! I'm in, but you probably would want me to wait a few days. I'm about to fall over into the keyboard.

    :)
