i had been having cramps all day on august 29th, so i stayed in bed, until my 2 oldest daughters said they were hungry. i got up and went to heat up some lasagna at around 3. i reached to turn the stove on, and my water broke. i text my husband, but after 15 mins he didn't respond, so i called his work and told his boss. he called me back a few mins later, telling me he had lost the truck at work. (he was freakin out lol) he got home, picked me and the girls up and took me to the hospital. the dr said that since i was 6 wks early, they wouldn't help my labor, but they also weren't going to stop it and i would have to stay in the hosp til i had her. the cramps i had been having turned out to be actual contractions that were 3 mins apart. after awhile the contractions got more painful, then slowed down and spread out, so the nurse thought i wasn't going to have here. out of nowhere, they got so bad that i decided i wanted the epidural and for them to check my cervix (up til then they wouldn't check my cervix bc of the risk of infection.) they checked and i was at 5 cm. i told the nurse i wanted the epi, and asked how long til i could get it. she told me i had to finish the iv bag of fluid i had and 1 more. i said "nevermind, i won't get the epi." she asked why not. i told her that i wouldn't have time. she said "oh, you are only at 5 cm, you'll have plenty of time." i said "i know my body, but whatever you say." 10 mins later, i told her i needed to push. she checked and said i might be about ready to push. she told me to push a little and see what happened. i took a breath to get ready to push and miana's head shot forward. the nurse put her fingers to block her head and said stop pushing til the dr gets here. i was like "WHAT???" dr got there a few mins later and i pushed 3 times and she was out. miana had to be in the nicu for only 12 days. she is doing wonderfully now.

I was in this group earlier in the year but took a little hiatus due to stress/issues. Recently came back to ds and thought I would add my info here!
Baby's Name: Maya Kathryn
Date of Birth: 10/04/09
Original Due Date: 10/07/09
Weeks Pregnant: 39 weeks 4 days, but her size suggested she was 38 weeks.
Weight: 6lbs even
Height: 19inches
I changed from OB to Midwife around 26 weeks or so due to lousy care. My Dr had a bad beside manner and refused to take me off of hypertension meds that I didnt need. It was the best choice I could have made! When I told my OB I didnt want pitocin or any kind of augmentation he also refused so that was it!
My baby had been head down and the head was engaged for about a month when she suddenly turned breech at 37 weeks. Midwife suggested I use an icepack on my tummy where her head was and sure enough she turned back down! :-) We went through that several times, it seemed she had lots of room and was enjoying doing flips and turns! On Friday 10/02 I felt she was head up again so I got the icepack out once more. I felt her go head down again and decided to do some squats to try and get her engaged again. That night I started to bleed slightly and on Saturday I started to have a few contractions. Since the birthing center was a 45 min drive from our house the midwife had me come in to get checked just incase. Much to my disapointment I was only a fingertip dilated and the cervix was thick, so I came back home. Went about my day and did more squatting. Midwife said I could go at anytime. The contractions stayed but couldnt time them.
So we went to bed and I woke up at 3am with much harder contractions. I got up to pee and noticed my bleeding at picked up a bit more. I went back to bed to try and sleep more and started to time them. At 3:15 I noticed they were coming every 4 mins so I woke Hubby up and decided to take a shower to see if they stopped or slowed but they didnt! So we called midwife and she wanted us to time them, 5 mins apart lasting 1 min for 1 hour. An hour later the contractions were strong enough I had to breathe and focus on them. I called my mom to have her come watch our kids and called the midwife back. At this point she wanted the contractions to last 60-90 secs since they were 30 secs to 1 min. I reminded her that I was 45 mins away and she told me to meet her at the birthing center at 5:30. The drive there was horrible...I kept thinking I might deliver in the van...infact my mom asked me if I thought I would make it...I wasnt sure.
We finally made it there at 5:45 and she checked me at 5:50. I was 4cm dilated and boy did that discourage me. I was so scared because even though this is baby #4, this is the first time my body had gone into labor on its own and the first time without the epidural and holy cow it hurt more than anything Ive ever felt in my life! Midwife told me to thank God for the contractions...that this is exactly what was supposed to happen...thank God for the pain. She also told me that if I could keep my body relaxed that things would move quicker. I layed in the bed moaning deeply but keeping ALL of my muscles completely relaxed...my hubby was on the bed with me holding my hand. At about 6:12 I felt the need to push and I said so...she checked me and I was 7cm now! My cervix was melting away, so she said push and see if it made me feel better. So pushed I did and my water broke. Another 2 min later here came a BIG contraction and I started to push again and felt her head crown. Midwife went running for gloves. Hubby was going to deliver the baby but I pushed so hard that she just popped out!
WOW! Was I surprised at how fast everything went! Maya passed meconium inside so midwife suctioned her mouth and nose and waited for the cord to stop pulsing before they cut. I was immediately sent into some fuzzy/hazy state of being. I recovered a few mins later and had this beautiful tiny little baby in my arms! What a difference between a birthing center and hospital birth! So relaxed and natural. No beeping machines and bright lights...no gowns or masks. It was the most spiritual experience of my life!
So after 3 hours of labor and 2 pushes I had a beautiful baby girl in my arms and 4 hours after I gave birth we were driving home! My recovery has been so quick but more painful due to the quickness of delivery. Maya is a wonderful baby, very mellow and when awake so alert. Breastfeeding has been difficult, my nipples are too big for her tiny mouth, so I rented a pump. I nurse her as often as I can during the day and sometimes she latches, but if she cant then she gets a bottle. Im going to visit a lactation consultant this week to try and get help with it. So frustrating!
Sorry it was so long, but I wanted to share my awesome birth story! It hurt like nothing Ive ever felt, but the pain was gone in a flash and we are doing fantastic! -

Baby's Name: Ellyson Kate
Date of Birth: Wednesday, Oct 7th
Original Due Date: Saturday, Oct 24th
Weeks Pregnant: 37wks, 4days
Weight: 8 lbs 2 oz
Height: 20 inches
I went into labor Tuesday night with Elly the dr tried to stop the labor with shots because she wanted to make sure that this wasn't false labor. They tried several shots and they didn't work the dr almost sent me home to labor but had a gut feeling that I needed to go ahead and deliver the next morning. She was born by c-section which we knew we had to have because of the large cut on my uterus from the twins. She was born at 7:25am with the cord wrapped twice around her neck and was blue. Her heart stopped and the had to do chest compressions all this was completely unexpected. She is currently in the nicu with oxygen problems but we are praying that she comes home next week. During the delivery they had to cut out some of my uterus because I hemorrhaged pretty badly. They also tied my tubes which the dr suggested and I requested because I have such a hard time carrying. I am so sad to have another nicu baby but I am so thankful she is alive. They said if we would have gone any longer should would have died because the cord was wrapped so tightly around her neck and the stress that she was under because of it. -
