In a surprise, Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize
SLO – President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, citing his outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation.
The stunning choice made Obama the third sitting U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize and shocked Nobel observers because Obama took office less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline. Obama's name had been mentioned in speculation before the award but many Nobel watchers believed it was too early to award the president.

Teddy Roosevelt & Woodrow Wilson are the only two other sitting president who won a Nobel Prize while in office.
He has made his place in history again.
1906...Teddy Roosevelt is famous for his environmentalist strides...to protect the environment. The national park system, trust busting , and ending to the Russo-Japanese War
1919 Woodrow Wilson is famous for the League of nations..to work together for international peace.

I'm glad for this, although I must admit a bit puzzled. Watch the right wing nutjobs express their ridicule and negativity on this. -

I think the prize represents the world's collective sigh of relief that the US, still the most influential country in the world, is moving away from the stupid policies of the Bush/Cheney administration. -

This is an actual statement from our state department and not from Stephen Colbert, I kid you not:
"Certainly from our standpoint, this gives us a sense of momentum -- when the United States has accolades tossed its way, rather than shoes." -
