HOW Program

Posted on 11/04/08, 07:13 am
I'm on day 6 of the HOW program! I'm ready to go ballistic! I want sugar! I want flour! And I want lots of it! How did other people get thru their cravings in those first 30 days?

Hi Lisa, I've never done HOW (but I have heard of it) but when I did Atkins I found the first week was the hardest. The cravings get better (as in go away) until the point that looking at sweet sugary stuff makes you want to gag. It just looks too sweet.

Hang in there. I think it's going to get easier for you.

Your profile says you went from 230 to 198. How did you lose the first 30?

I just started watching what I eat this week and have lost 4 lbs so far.

I'm 5'4 240 lbs, PCOS, insulin resistant and take medications for bipolar that are notorious for making patients gain weight. I also take birth control (known for aboutn 10 lbs of water weight.)

I am encouraged by your attending OA. I am going to see where the nearest meeting to me is. How far do you travel to your meetings?

I know a man who has been attending OA. He uses HOW and he's doing well.

    Nice to meet you!

Hi Joanne! Welcome! I am also a dialysis patient, so the first 30lbs were water weight, but I'm also backup to 208lbs which is mostlyn water, I'm sure. I also was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18...back then, they didn't know as much about PCOS as they do now, so I wound up with diabetes, was misdiagnosed for years and finally in 1999 a Dr. I had found it...but unfortunately, the kidney's were already starting to fail. You know, you don't look like you're 240 in your picture! Anyway, nice to meet you and I hope to hear from you soon....ps-go to www.overeateranonymous.com they should have a list of meetings in your area! Good luck!

Take the first step and go. The hardest thing I've had todo so far, was walk into that first meeting. I was scared. I thought everyone would stare at me, that I'd be the fattest person there. But no, everyone was so welcoming and supportive and they all personally welcomed me after the meeting. It was great! For me it was like "FINALLY! People who understand exactly what I'm going thru!" For me, I probably would have wound up dead. I was stuffing myself, consistently for two strait months. I gained about 40lbs and when I went to see my Doctor next, he told me I was pushing morbid obesity. So, I went home after that appointment and ate an entire 12" pizza to myself...and still had dinner later that evening, but the restaurant messed up my order, so they brought me two dinners and I ate them BOTH! My stomach got so bloated, my clothes weren't fitting and I was miserable. It wasn't until after my first meeting did I start to feel better! Anyway, I wish you Love in Recovery!

Is there any cost to it? How much do you usually put in the basket (if that is how they do it)?

Welcome
