  There are less than 100 al Qaeda in Afghanistan - what are we doing?
  
  This has nothing to do with 9/11 IMO and neither did Iraq.
  
  Hopefully just because the military requests this money does not mean that Obama will be pressured into staying in Afghanistan. We need to just get out.

  Yes, This is the top story in the news nowadays - Obama's excruciatingly difficult decison about Afghanistan. It's conventional wisdom it's a war that cannot be won. How can one man - "W" - do so much tremndous damage?? Just think - if we never invaded Iraq - but Af was to rout out the Taliban and get Bin Laden after 911. And it didn't work. Good question - why are we still THERE?

  Shevan - Obama said today that he was going to begin drawing down the troops in Iraq and that the troops which were left would be there to help rebuild what has been destroyed.
  
  I think he's going to pull out of Afghanistan too. This country does not want this war any longer - and i think that's why he is taking in so much information - he wants a strong case for leaving that will help the US understand - I hope.
  
  Re Bush - had he raised taxes, rather than lowering taxes for the wealthy, it would have brought entirely too much immediate attention to what he was doing and he didn't want that - so he just doubled our National Debt. You are so right - how could one man do so much damage to our country.
  
  I think he saw the country as a big toy that he got to play with - experiment with - and say "Look Dad - do you like me now?" He had no idea of the seriousness of his actions - or he did and didn't care.

  I surmised that LJ. Yes, it was a good distraction, that war. I agree that he wanted to show Poppy what an astute politician his son was. He outdid Dad already - he got reelected. What were the American people thinking? Did they think? At all? And now they're blaming Obama for the state the country is in?
