TROUBLE

DS is a somewhat unique website. There are moderators, Community Leaders, Administrators, and DS 'TOP BRASS' who, TO ONE DEGREE OR ANOTHER control and manage what goes on at DS. When there is "trouble", it usually gets taken care of. In my opinion, it is more UNmoderated than moderated though. Almost anything can happen here.
None of these entities watch everything that happens on DS. That would be impossible. Instead, WHEN THEY HAVE TIME, they may 'WATCH' the action, or they can be PRIVATE MESSAGED by members when "something needs to be done". Unfortunately, their intervention can be somewhat delayed and a bad situation can get "pretty bad" before it is rectified.
TROUBLE in this case basically means some member (accounts are free, anonymous, and easy to get (just takes a few seconds to "be" a member)) just plain creates chaos on DS. Reasons for doing this are they are mentally ill, disgruntled because in the past, as a different user, they got banned, are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or? or? or? It sometimes does not take much to get a LOT of DS members extremely upset. When this happens, it gets reported by someone to the above entities and the member is banned, their account is closed, their posted 'THREAD' is closed (no replies to it allowed) and things die down rather well.
Trouble is NOT profanity or vulgarity. DS is very "free speech" oriented. If anyone on DS is personally and verbally attacked, .. that is trouble, but the use of profanity in an IMpersonal way is not "trouble".
A threat or expression of intent to commit suicide is NOT trouble. Happens often on DS. When you run into this, IGNORE it/stay out of it OR engage the person and encourage them to call a crisis number and do what is within reason to talk them out of it. THERE IS RARELY ANYTHING MORE YOU CAN DO. A threat to harm someone else IS trouble and needs to be reported. You will figure out what is trouble and what isn't soon enough.
Click on HELP in the upper right corner of just about ANY page to read ALL about DS, how it is used, how to report something, and what to do in an emergency. Here are some 'good to know links' from that page:

Another important link is:

I urge you to not get involved in ANY dischord on DS. If you are insulted, do not 'come back at 'em'. If 'trouble' is observed directed at you, IGNORE it, report it, and put the person on IGNORE (click on IGNORE under their AVATAR). Putting someone on IGNORE prevents them from directly communicating with you. Reporting the problem to the 'entities' will take further action agains the matter. You IGNORE list appears on your MY ACCOUNT page. My personal rule is "take what does you well, give what you wish, and IGNORE the rest" and it has worked EXTREMELY well for me.

You may notice on some Avatars a blue 'badge' imposed in the upper left corner. This signifies a CL (Community Leader). I, myself, happen to be one. We are volunteers selected by DS to be helpful to you. If you need to, feel free to PM (private message) or CHAT to any CL who is online, and they will do what they can to help you. -

The best way to report 'trouble' is through an abuse form:
http://www.dailystrength.org/help/...
or a feedback form:
http://www.dailystrength.org/help/...
Both of these links can be found in various places, . but always in the HELP section. -

You might run across a post that is somehow 'strange' or questionable in its truthfulness. Just under each Avatar you will notice VIEW MORE POSTS. Click on that and you will see a 'history' of his older/other posts and may be able to draw some conclusions as to what is going on. Sometimes they are saying they are suicidal in one Group and at the same time, they are chasing women in another Group (for example). Whatever,... this is a good way to get some 'background'.
