I think a neurologist is the best doctor to go to right now, after I read your symptoms. He'll know the right tests to do and get a background on what is going on. Maybe a pain clinic is a good idea in the meantime too. I have pain in the neck all the time ... it was better, but I had to go off of methotrexate due to ulcers in my mouth that won't go away. Sleeping is hell. I don't have any advice on the bone in your neck as I don't know if PT can make it move back in place or not. I'm wishing you the best and hope you can have some painfree days. Good luck to you. I'm keeping you on my mind and in my heart.
peace and love ... Kyle Anne

    Hello bigsis57,

I have to recommend that you see an Upper Cervical Chiropractor. This is a subspecialty within the Chiropractic field--they adjust the top two bones (C1 and C2) which has an effect on everything else. I joined this group in July when I was suffering nearly constant pain (atypical facial pain, similar to Trigeminal Neuralgia). I found someone on the internet who went to Upper Cervical Chiropractor and was cured--instead of the medications and surgery recommended by neurologists and such--so I found a local chiropractor of the Atlas Orthogonal field. I chose AO because it was the most gentle. They x-ray you on the first visit and determine how exactly to adjust you. On your second visit, you get a tiny tap behind one ear--and you will literally feel the effect as your body re-aligns itself based upon the new positioning.
Do a good search on "Upper Cervial Chiropractor" and "Atlas Orthogonal" and you can find a local one. DEFINITELY consult with one of these before getting any more surgery!

I was in excruciating chronic neck pain from a 1996 car accident (rear-ended by an 18-wheeler truck) for two years, seeing all sorts of doctors. Surgeons wouldn't touch my damaged C-1 vertebrae (the atlas) because of its proximity to the brain stem. Thanks to colleagues at work, they steared me towards their chiropractor who is one of the leading experts in the field of Atlas Orthogonality.

In short, "AO" gave me my life back. Without it, I would be drugged up on massive pain killers, if I hadn't already ended my life by now; I sure thought about it at the time. I'll admit, it took me several years to resume a truly normal life and, with continued behavior modification (e.g., no more sleeping on my tummy, no more clasping the phone between my ear and shoulder) and regular exercise to keep my neck muscles strong, I have my life back. For the past seven years now, I merely go every four to eight weeks for my AO adjustment and see it as part of my normal life, like going to the hair salon.

I was a very severe case and, if I was able to resume a normal life, others certainly will be able to do so as well. Anyone wanting more information, please let me know. If you live in Florida, I'll gladly provide you with names and contact information.

    Best wishes for pain-free days,
    Iris
