Plantar Fasciitis

Posted on 07/18/08, 02:18 pm
Does anyone here suffer from plantar fasciitis? It can cause severe pain coming from the sole of your foot from under the toes all the way down to the heel. I've had injections in my heel for this in the past which only provided temporary relief. I have excellent orthotics in my sneakers, but the pain (and swelling) have come back, causing my lower leg to have pain that feels electric.

I have had this condition also. There are footware catalogs that have braces that are helpful. You could try to stretch your foot before getting out of bed. Straighten your leg and pull your toes toward you. I have found that this eases some of the pain that you feel when getting out of bed. I hope this helps you. Good Luck.

I used to do that exercise, but I overdid it and it caused a fibro flare in my ankle. I should definitely do that exercise, though, as it does really help. Unfortunately, when I exercise my foot that way, my sciatica really acts up! Thanks for your advice and for caring! It means a lot to me.

I have this also, in one foot mostly but in the other a little too. I am fine when I am wearing trainers but at home even if I wear slippers my foot is so uncomfortable by the time I go to bed. When I lay down to sleep it can often keep me awake just trying to find somewhere to put it where it feels ok. Since I started wearing trainers I don't have pain in either of my feet in the morning.

I hate to sound stupid, but what exactly are trainers? I have custom-made orthotics that I use most of the time, but now I see I need to wear them more than that. I get swelling on the inside part of my heel and apply ice which helps. I wish there were some kind of thing that you could wear with the orthotics to apply pressure to the area that hurts the most!

There is a new treatment for plantar Fasciitis, it is called a Topaz Coblation treatment. In fact there is a clinical trial for it, so you could be a guineas pig...

I had this treatment done on my Achilles tendon, it is kind a localized sonic wave, that breaks up the scar tissue in the area. It is still a fairly new procedure, but there might be a Pod in your area that is using it. The healing time is pretty fast, you are up and walking in about 3 weeks.
    Take care,
    Jon

I have it worst in my right foot, swelling in both feet and ankles for about a year. My reg.Dr. saying"I don't know? I don't think any of your meds would cause this?" Sent me to see an ortho Dr. who says "planar fasciitis, exercise and stretches see PT." PT says we can't do anymore for you(already had been seeing them for just under a year for treatment of t-12 fracture and L4&5 herniated disks) Saw a new Dr. (old one left the hospital) and asked pain meds to be upped. She says "it's planar fasciities and nothing will help, see a podiatrist" so I did. Heeee saiddddd" PF caused by L 4&5, nerve damaging causing "drop foot" or what I called ballerina feet, always wanting to point down. Also caused nerve damage to the big toes and caused them to turn in like I've worn point toed high heels most of my life, and I would have loved to to, but they hurt my back and I worried about my feet(toes)Anyway, about a week ago I was fitted with arch supports(both shoes) and when the ones he casted for come back I go to see prosthetics people for shoes. I have no I idea what to expect yet, but I pray it will be more relief as I've had a taste of a little bit.

I think i am going to see if having something laser treatment on my foot will help there is a place in Winnipeg that does nothing but low intensity laser therapy. who knows it may just help

I believe that laser treatment for your foot is not an FDA approved treatment. If it is cold laser treatment, I believe it is only FDA approved for carpal tunnel. I find that I must wear my orthotics 100% of the time. When I don't wear them, the pain comes back and can be excruciating. The stretching is definitely helpful, as is putting your painful foot on top of an ice pack, or a frozen vegetable bag. Good luck with whatever treatment you choose, but remember to never walk barefoot anywhere - in or out of the house - as that will definitely add to your pain big time.
