Severe IBS Spasms

Posted on 07/15/08, 11:10 pm
I rarely have a problem with my IBS, but for the last 2 weeks, my spasms just won't stop! The only thing that helps is eating close to nothing! Do any of you take probiotics on a regular basis or acidophilis? I've heard they do help, but I've never gotten a recommendation from someone who uses them for this purpose.

Yes, I do take probiotics and they help tremondously. I have also been off of wheat and dairy and have found that sugar also causes issues for my system. The bad bacteria feeds off of sugar as does fungus and candida.

    Go to http://www.ramswebsite.net/Eczema_...
Scroll to the bottom where it talks about "Good Gut bacteria"

Many useful links to Probiotic Research.
YES as RedDutchGirl said they are very useful in treating IBS.

    -Best Wishes to you

I am busy today so I can't go in and copy and paste for you. If you are under 4yr you need a specific kind which is on the www.RAMSwebsite.Net
If you look at the FloraQ they go over 4 different types this product has in it. Nestle Research(link on the website) go over 2 bacteria and what they found them to do. You can do your research and talk to your doc ot find the best one for you.

Thanks for the replies and support. I just found a probiotic at the pharmacy which is intended for women's use. So far it is helping with my IBS symptoms, especially the bloating and feeling so awful. Probiotics are certainly well worth looking for!

Kyna, it's kind of hard to explain since sufferers may have different symptoms. It used to be called "Spastic Colon." My symptoms include:

There are 2 ways you can have IBS - with diarhea or constipation - I have it with constipation

Certain foods are "trigger" foods, all fake sugars, and additives/chemicals in foods all can cause the painful spasms involved in having IBS.

When I get it badly, the spasms are in my lower abdomen and the corresponding part of my lower back. The pain can be excruciating for me.

Stress seems to be the major cause of IBS and with me, once it started, I will always have it, so I watch what I eat and take something to keep myself "regular."

If you have add'l questions, send me a message and I'll try to answer them for you.

Hope your mom feels better and that you are doing ok too.
