Neurontin

I was on neurontin 5 years ago. It worked WONDERS for my nerve pain, then suddenly - taking gave me the most severe headaches I ever experienced in my life. A single 100 mg. pill would have me in so much pain I could not tolerate light or sound. Doctors took me off it for 6 months, then put me back on it and with the very first pill - massive headache. Well, 4 years later my nerve pain has reached an all time high and we are re-visiting the old treatments that failed in the past. Neurontin no longer gives me headaches AND it helps the nerve pain, but - and this is a biggie - It makes me into the nastiest person you ever met. About an hour after taking 100 mg. I get mad, angry, enraged. I feel violent like I want to break things or hurt people. It never did this to me in the past. I'm not taking any other meds, so its not a combination effect. i cant believe 100 mg. of this makes me so enraged. I cant do this to my family and co-workers so i've stopped taking it and will discuss it with the doc at the next visit. Has anyone else had this happen?

I have been on a lot of medications in the past, and everyone of them as given me such terrible headaches. I was put on Neurontin for a while but it did not seem to help me with the nerve pain that I have.

My hub took neurontin briefly and became a very confrontational person which was totally out of character for him. He is a very quiet, loving man and when this started I knew it was the medication. His neurologist told me this is a very common side effect of this med. He got off of it immediately!!!!!!!!

Obviously, you know what is causing your emotional outbursts. Now it's time to tell the doctor that you truly need something else ... or a referral to someone else. I've been on Neurontin for years and it works for me. However, if I had the reactions you are having, I'd be back to the doctor wanting some answers and some tests done.

I'm on your side, sweetie. You are on my mind and in my heart. peace and love ... Kyle Anne

never have no...it is working wonders on the nerve pain and chronic restless leg syndrome symptom,,,makes me sleepy and also blurs my vision sometimes pretty bad for a little while...I am having headaches but feel it is due to the blown disc in the middle of my back...T5 6? My guess anyway...having to lay down and stay as relaxed as possible through this...meeting the surgeons PA next week,,,I trust him though,,he fused my left sacral joint successfully...if anyones going to do anything to my back,,,he's the only one I would allow in this town anyway...wish you the best this time around. Isn't there anything else for nerve pain out there I wonder?

My problem with Neurontin (Gabapentin) is that I keep having to increase the dose and although I am still not up to the daily maximum, I wonder what will happen when I am and it doesn't work anymore. Also, I don't know if my pain is getting worse, or whether the meds are not working. I currently take 1500mg perday.

100mg is such a small dose maybe you have become sensitized to it? Almost like developing an allergy maybe??

hmmm...I am on gabapentin as well 1200mg a day I am also having problems with some anger, I have had 12 operations in that past year to save me, I am creating huge blood clots, had my right leg amputated and the left has neuropathy from crotch to bottom of toes...due to tons of fem bypasses etc...but this is the first time I have heard of the anger issues makes sense...I thought it may be cause I am in a wheelchair and dealing with some idiot people (see there it goes) lol any way I will look into this as the other day I chased down a person for cutting me off in a isle at the store...(much to the horror of my daughter) I love this forum gives you so much food for thought thanks -joy

I, too, take gabapentin. I also have fits of rage. Wonder what causes it?

I'm on 1500 mgs. per day of gabapentin. It seems to help me. Luckily, I have had no fits of rage that I can think of. Yes, I've gained some weight but not a significant amount.

Nanny? I read your post here. My gosh, I am so sorry for all you are going through. Then again, I wish I would have seen you chasing that person down in the store. Hearing it later it seems rather funny, doesn't it? However, fits of rage aren't the answer to anything.

Talk to your doctors. See if rage is one of the side effects of gabapentin. If not, do you still want to stay on it or is there something else to be tried? I don't know the answers. I'm just full of questions. Sorry.

peace and love ... Kyle Anne

it has helped me a lot but the only side effect that i have noticed is that i get bloody night mares. they don't really bother me tho cuz blood doesn't make me queezy or anything. so i just deal with it. better than dealing with the nerve pain.
