Numb legs ever make you fall or trip
Posted on 06/21/08, 10:56 am
Just wondering if anyone out the has problems walking due to the numbness? I've started tripping a lot the past few months and it's getting worse. I fell at work this week partly due to my shoe but mainly my left feet isn't functioning right either.
I'm still waiting for a diagnosis but may never have one. I had a spinal tap a month ago but don't have the results yet. This is the last test. After 16 months of testing I'm out of options.

I have been given nurontin for nerve pain. I have back issues and the doc says pinched nerves. My right leg it goes strong tingling vibrations of lots of tiny pins. Mostly from calf into my right foot. I dindt know I had back issues until I fell down. MY 2nd fall was due to this type of numbness. So I say yes it can. Plus I had foot surgery as a child. So Im just either very clumsy or its my feet & numbness. I wish you well. -

Both drop foot and having numb feet and legs is a sign of neuropathy.
The spinal tap should show results... but if not, have they taken a biopsy of your skin yet? This test will show small fiber neuropathy. -

Yes I have fallen a lot. I get this terrible nerve pain under my feet, and then after a while it becomes numb. So my balance is not good because of all this. One time I was in the shop and I fall, and one of the staff had to get a wheelchair for me, to take me back to my car. -

I too have fallen because I couldnt feel my legs and feet. Usually its on steps. Dont know why steps cause more numbness. -

I think I do have a slightly dropped foot now and that is causing the tripping. After I feel I looked at my shoe and saw that the toe area on the left foot was worn very badly. I then noticed most of my left shoes are getting worn on the end of the toe area, a sure sign I'm dragging the foot. My mom had hip surgery and the dr. did nerve damage during the surgery, which caused a dropped foot so I'm familar with that.
I've had a nerve and muscle biopsy, which shows muscle atrophy and some nerve damage. The emg shows a lot of nerve damage. No, petitep, I have'nt had the skin biopsy. I read that there is only one place in the US that does that and it's in Cinn, OH. My insurance probably wouldn't pay for it.
I'm now paying on approx. 5 different medical bills from all the testing and can't afford more.
The numbness is getting worse quite rapidly now and has me worried. The numbness in my left let is almost all the way up and in the right leg up past the knee. On the left side it made a jump from just above the knee to all the way up within a week. The entire left side of my body is much worse than the left. There isn't much now that doesn't have numbness.
It looks like I may never have a diagnosis. I'm tired of tests and told the dr. the spinal tap was the end of the road for me. Plus, he said he had run all the tests he knew to run. I doubt he will want to try any kind of drugs since he has no idea what is going on. -

I have MS and my legs and feet are numb 99% of the time from nerve issues. I have taken more falls than I care to mention. I fell the first day of our vacation in Prague and broke my ankle. Recently I fell down the stairs at my son's house and the next time we visited, I fell flat on my face in the front door. He jokinly said I couldn't visit them anymore! -

Yes I have fallen seriously five times, once breaking my right foot in four places, once knocking myself out on my moms driveway and once right in front of a client... I could not move for twenty minutes I was in so much pain, everyone kept trying to help me up and I just couldnt do it. I have broken every glass, dish, vase, bowl that I own and now only use plastic wear.. oh boy this is fun. My dr. said that it is getting worse and mentioned some names I swore to remember... I forgot.. oh well
