two herbs that I know of are
Goldenseal Root and Goldenseal Herb.....the root is much more potent than the herb.....all around viral/bacterial/fungal/protozoal fighter.....good for people who have autoimmune disorders like SLE/Lupus
Echinacea root......good for fighting upper respiratory infections like streptococcus....but because it is an immune stimulant it should not be taken by anyone who has an auto immune disorder like Lupus or someone who has a progressive systemic disease like MS, tuberculosis, leukosis, collagen disorder or AIDS or HIV because this root has stimulating effect on the immune system
dont forget about eating lots of garlic and onions as they both are good to ward off infections

I see an Ayurvedic practitioner (ancient medicine from India) and she recommended that I get Ravensara Essential Oil. It is strongly antiviral and combats flu or any respiratory virus. You can buy it from naturesgift.com, but I found it a little hard to locate. Click on Essential Oil Descriptions. When that opens, click on it again and scroll down to Essential Oils P-R. In that box you will find Ravensara. It is made from the leaves of the Madagascar tree. I also bought the Aroma Stone diffuser and put 2 teaspoons of water in the bowl with one drop of Ravaensara and plug it in. It spreads a very faint aroma through the room. They also sell a blend of essential oils called Flu Foil Synergy, which I think I'll buy. It is designed for diffusion or inhalation, not topical. -
