high cholesterol

People have asked me how I lowered my cholesterol. Thought I let everyone hear what I did. Went to the Doctors and had a blood test. Cholesterol was 256, hdl 40, ldl was 137 and triglycerides were 429. Dr wanted to put me on statins namely lipator. I refused and here is what I did. I began an exercise program of walking every day. at first I could only walk about 5 minutes before I was pooped out 6 months later and I'm walking 1 hour. I changed my diet and ate fresh fruit and vegetables and limited lean meat. I ate a lot of apples for the pectin, took supplements like 4 grams of fish oil a day, 2 grams of flaxseed oil, garlic pills, chromium picolinate, multipule vitimin with minerals, extra C and B. Now 6 months later I haven't lost any weight but my cholesterol is 175,hdl is 57,ldl is 89,triglycerides are 120. My doctor is in complete amazement. You know how doctors tend to be pill pushers and do not believe in naturals. He just can't believe what shape I'm in now in 6 months time. Well it took a lot of proper eating, exercise, and supplements. I feel great now if I can just loose some weight I would feel even better. That's the next thing on my adgenda. So If anyone wants to lower their cholesterol naturally it can be done.

Congrats, from a nursing point, that is wonderful. Exercise if very helpful in lower cholesterol, also cooking with olive oil is one of the changes I made, along with some supplements. I'm proud of you, keep up the good work. It is important. Statins have a lot of side effects, don't want to take them unless it is absolutely the last resort.
    Peace,

Thats awesome! My fiance had high cholesterol. He does not have health insurance so really had no choice but to try to lower it naturally. Its amazing how low it is now! With fish oil, fish, oatmeal in the morning, a lot of fruit and exercise.

Congratulations!!! Good reminders of what we should be doing. My husband has the high cholesterol and taking drugs. He is toughy to get out and walk and sneaks off to restaurants for breakfast instead of eating healthy. Thanks again for the info and hopefully it will inspire all of us. I did me.
