Assalam alaykum wa ramatullahi wa barakatuhu!
I hope everyone is doing well in emaan. I would love to see this community grow.
I know there is such a stigma on mental illness in our Muslim community here locally I think due to some cultural followings. My pdoc (psychiatrist for those who don't have mental illnesses) is Muslim and feels the same way. For instance I am certain my husband is bipolar, yet he will not get treatment because he thinks he can get over it himself and that prayer can cure it. I do think prayer can really help - alhamdulilah. My son has epilepsy and we have a genetic abnormality which is linked to ADD/ADHD, Epilepsy and Bipolar disorder (which is really throughout my family in various forms and severity) I have read something about it also being linked to schizophrenia, but that does not run in our family. - so this is more than just in our heads and at a biological level.
I do believe that for every disease there is a cure - it is just finding that cure that is the problem. So rest assured there will be a cure for whatever ailment you may have, and maybe just maybe in our lifetimes we will see some - inshallah.
OK - I just thought I would post. Nice to meet everyone and inshallah I hope more people post as well.
Fi Amanillah,
Amal
