Music Major asking about Theory

I am in college to be a music major and I am going through Music Theory IV. If anybody has gone through this do you have any tips on how to get through it?

  Not me, learning music theory by the book scares the crap out of me. I'm trying to self teach scales which is scarey enough.. you're brave to try it.

  I did Music for 3 years at uni and the only module I failed was music theory. I dont the know the dots and the dots dont like me :D

  I really like Theory but the teacher really doesn't know what he is talking about which makes it hard. The scales was one of the easier things to learn. Good luck with it.

  I Remember taking theory in college. Worse than taking an enema. But I skidded through it. Got a study group together to study for the Teachers Certification. We studied together as a group every sunday night when we got back to school. That helped a lot. So you may want to pool some of your classmates that know Theory to get through it. It is a tough course. Just hang in there you can do it.

  One other thing that can help is study all types of chords on piano and practice them over and over until they become second nature to you. Hope this helps.

  Thanks for your help. I acctually tried to get a group together but everyone in the class is really stuck up and no one wanted to do it. I am not good on the piano at all they don't even teach it with the Theory class at my college. I will make it ... I hope lol

  I flunked music theory in college and was told to seek a different career choice. Then I quit college to go on the road for 6 years as a full time professional musician, followed by 11 years working a day job while playing 2 to 4 nights a week. But you know my theory limitations Charity, as you've helped me to understand a few things. Still don't have those demented arpeggios up to speed yet....

Basic songwriting discussions. Singing/vocals Tips on confidence or sharing with others Tips for recordings yourself or writing down your songs + more ! : )
