I was very skeptical when I first joined DS. I am up to 65 on my friends list. I have a handful who I consider true friesnds. You being one of them. I so wish that the handful I refer to were close enough to see on a regular basis and I do believe we could become even closer friends. Yes it is just the internet but real people just the same.
I know I don't reveal everything about myself as I'm sure many don't because it is the internet. Hell, I don't reveal everything about me to the real live people that are my friends.
I think it is great to hear that there are others out there just like us with real problems just like ours who understand what we are going through. Like they say you don't get it until you get it.
All we can do is hope that people are being sincere and take some of it with a grain of salt.

I know for the last year and a half I have been sitting at my computer on a regular basis. About the same time you would spend if you were working full time. What are your views on friendships made over the Internet. I know I value mine with the people I have met. But do you think this is a good thing? Everybody says it's just the Internet. Love to hear your views.

Oh! and if you added some lemon wedges and tequila with that salt we could have a party and then I'm sure a lot more would be revealed. HA! Just kidding, or am I? -

Friendships over the internet is really different territory isn't it? The term friends is used loosely by many in my experience. There are friends and then there are acquaintances. I think if you go into it knowing it will be different and not to have too unrealistic expectations, it can be fun and the sharing and fun is well worth it. -

I think having internet friends is good. While some I don't correspond with often, there are others i've had as lifelong internet friends, even though i've never met them. I've even met a few of my MS friends. I've corresponded through the snail mail, through Yahoo, and e-mails as well.
I agree you do have to be careful on the internet and whom you get close too.
The person your corresponding with is on the other end of "their" computer. Sometimes you gotta notice the red flags. Some are honest and some are'nt.
It takes alot of trust to get close to anyone on the internet............for me anyway.
I think the key is to use the computer in moderation and not let it dictate your every move, every day, every hour. Don't forget to go outside, go places, see your loved ones.
Moderation and being careful is the key I think..........speaking from my own experience. -

I think that you have to be carefull with how much you share on and off the web. We all know when someone is being creepy, funny, honest and a friend. I have been picked up several times on ds when i fall.
I know my real true friends on ds. I don't have to see or write them everyday. I know they are there

I rely on my instincts & am very open to establishing what I consider to be real friendships online ~ the MS situation has changed the course of my options for interacting w/ people so I get a bulk of my socializing done online if I'm wanting constant &/or instant interaction ...
I feel fortunate to have many 'real-life' friends in my life who don't understand the whole MS thing, but they truly care ~ the online friends here counter-balance, because ya'll DO understand the MS thing & that's as irreplaceable to me as anything I've had w/ my 'face-to-face friends' ... make any sense? -

Internet friends are wonderful things. One thing to remember is to not let those right next to us slip away because we spend our time on the internet. Remember, our family always has to come before the internet. IMO the internet is a fun thing, we gain much from it. At the same time you can never replace your family and friends that are right beside us, we need them, and they need us, so we must always know when to shut the computer down and interact with those in our lives. A computer adds to our lives, it shouldn't become our lives.
