MacTouch Potential

If the rumours about the new apple tablet are true then it may have potential as a communication aid/environmental control also.

It is rumoured that we may be able to download apps as it is more like a large ipod touch than a computer. The screen is said to be only about 10" which would be small to work on as a touchscreen computer.

However if it has the ability to download apps onto it it opens up the possibility of using it as a communication aid via the Proloquo2Go program. This would provide a larger touchscreen area so people with co-ordination difficulties who couldnt manage it on the ipod touch/iphone would now be able to use this program.

Also if it is like a small computer and includes a USB port it opens possibility of connecting other access methods to use the software such as a switch, joystick/trackball or headmouse. Of course the people who made Proloquo2Go would first need to add an update to their software to enable you to access it via scanning or other methods.

Also as there is currently an app that allows you to use your ipod touch as a TV remote, this should also work on the Mactouch for people who need a larger area to press giving you a jumbo touchscreen remote, or one that can be accessed via other methods.

If for example you needed an Headmouse and Mactouch had a USB port to enable you to access it this way, you could then use your Mactouch to control your TV, as a communication aid and also possibly a keyboard/mouse interface to access other non-adapted PC's/Macs via Bluetooth.

Fingers crossed it lives up its rumours!
