Anyone Diagnosed with Migraines caused by Thyroid Probs?
Posted on 04/20/08, 12:13 pm
If anyone here is interested, i get chronic migraines, i went to the nuerologist and he said my "Hashimoto's Disease (Autoimmune Hypothyroidism) was the cause of them. I get them pretty chronically and it usually starts at the back of my neck. Although i have had a cluster migrain but most on the back of my neck? Anyone have thyroid probs here?

Thyroid disorders of all kinds are co-morbid with migraines. So, it is quite possible that a female heading toward menopause who used to have migraines will develop hypothyroidism. I know it runs in my family. -

I had never heard that thyroid problems and migrains were linked in any way! I have always suffered from migrains since I was young and most start in my neck as well. Do you know if they start to lessen once the thyroid med's are correct? I'm very interested to hear other's experiences with this as well.... Thanks for the new info! -

That I do not know. All I know is that like people with AIDS have a certain prevalence of developing Kaposi's sarcoma (a certain type of skin cancer), people with migraines tend to have a list of ailments that develop as well. I'll put the link to the thread about other co-morbid conditions down below: http://dailystrength.org/groups/mi... =========================== I should also say, Hashithing, you have the possibility of a few different kinds of headache disorder, not simply just "migraine": basilar artery migraine (depending on the other symptoms you get), cervicogenic headache that turns into a migraine, or occipital neuralgia. http://imigraine.net/other/occipit... -

Yes, I can say that they lessen immediately when my thyroid labs fall in the recommended lab range. -

I actually developed more migraines..Occular Migraines to be exact around the time I was starting to "develop" Graves Disease. Now I keep them under control with a variety of medications but as my thyroid became more hyperactive the worse my migraines became. -

Hello Hashithing - I posted about Migraine and Thryoid I think on Depression board. I am new here tonight. I am sure my migraines are related to thyroid. I am in Orange County CA - can you tell me who your Neurologist is. Mine spent 15 mins with me and prescribed Topamax and said I'd be on it the rest of my life. Now I'm on Wellbutrin for Depression from the Side Effects of the Topamax. And I still take 2-3 Imitrex a week. And NONE of these are covered by Insurance and I am broke.
Thnank you. -
