Hi Ciora - In brief I would say - the Reiki energy comes from the Universe. I think many healers and Reiki practitioners do know where the energy is coming from even though there are healers who say they don't know.
Over the years I have done a lot of distant healing as well as contact and auric type healing, when I do healing I use what I would describe as the Universal energy - that which is of love and intent is to heal for the greater good - when I act as a channel to help give healing I do so calling on the Universal energy and those who come to help in the unseen / spirit who are of like mind (my healing guides), I have done this work for such a long time that I personally trust the healing helpers in the unseen to direct me during the course of the healing for the person receiving the healing who will have their own personal spirit helpers also participating in the process.
The energy of Reiki healing from my experience feels exactly the same. (I've also done Reiki Stages I and II). Personally I would say the difference being that a Reiki practitioner might just call the Reiki Masters to help although I believe they will still be using the Universal energy to heal. However.......
I think the quality of healing and where the energy comes from is down to the individual - if a person only does magnetic healing for instance, they will deplete their own energy, and those who profess to be a healer and use other peoples energy in the healing process, to me are just leeches.
Reiki have their own symbols. You may be able to find them on the net.
I find the cho ku rai symbol useful for personal healing - in fact I find Reiki generally useful for self healing, although I also find crystal pendulums useful too.
From my own experience I would recommend Reiki Stage I to every individual as this in itself is a great experience if you feel good about the Reiki Master who will be opening up your channels using the Reiki symbols for you to receive the Reiki energy.
All healing used in the right way with pure intent will I believe result and produce great healing energy - the healing itself is out of our hands for we cannot determine what the results may be as we are not the healer merely the channel for the healing energy to flow through - this is my belief.

I've been feeling a tug towards Reiki lately. I've stated before, that I am Asatru and follow old Norse ways. I'm collecting knowledge on how to incorporate the runic symbols into this style of healing. I'm fairly certain that there was a similar practice in the past. Sadly, most of the practices of rune working- whether they be divination, healing, or otherwise, are all lumped into the mass sum of Seidhr.
I do have one question concerning Reiki. I understand that one channels energy and allows it to pass another person. My question is: where is the energy coming from? Its clear that the person channeling the energy is not giving it from him/herself. I am a firm believer in not stealing energy from elements, as they can be irritable if it is done so without permission. It would not seem right to be collecting it from other living things, since this is no better than being a psi-vamp.
It concerns me that many people practice this art, yet never question where they are taking the energy from.

I just joined this group and saw your post. I am seeing a Licensed counselor who is also a spiritual healer. she has recently had a calling to Reiki healing....she had a calling to work on me and the feeling was so amazing. I'm new to all of this. So if I recall she said she was channeling from divine light and angels around me. the healing nature was awesome and uplifting. Many changes have happened in my life. Some are very hard for me right now, but I believe that it is helping me to be open to divine light and to resonate on a higher frequency. -

Ah, thank you both for the replies! I know its been awhile, but I have double trouble (2 small girls) staying in the house. I am finally finding a little time to myself- so I am looking into this a bit more. :o)

I began receiving Reiki treatments about five years ago. At the time I was quite sick and depressed. Almost immediately my life began to change. It was truly amazing!! Because I personally experienced the awesome power of Reiki, I decided to take a Reiki class. I was subsequently attuned to Reiki 1 and Reiki 2. I believe Reiki energy is a gift from the Universe. As Breathes said, Intention is important. When I give a Reiki treatment, I also experience healing. It has opened me to a deeper spiritual life. I can actually see auras now. Reiki doesn't take away from anybody or anything. If you are feeling the tug, you should pursue it. The benefits are incredible.
