Am I the only one?

Posted on 01/07/09, 02:51 pm
Am I the only one here on DS that is upset that I can't get Medigap? My father in law just got a policy and it is costing him about half of what my current regular insurance is costing in my wife's group. If she looses her job we are screwed. Please let me know if there is only one else out there that needs Medigap under 65 other than me. I have heard back from AARP they basically said they are working on it and a bunch of other things. I am going to set down and draft a letter to send to my Washington politicians. If anyone wants a copy to look at and maybe send also let me know.

I enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan because I have the VA if I needed some kind of inpatient care. The AARP plan I have has lousy benefits for inpatient hospital, but there is no additional charge for it other than the part B premium. I thought you were able to use the VA Brent?

Dorothyofoz, I am in the VA system. However the nearest hospital is about 60 miles away. We have a clinic here in town. I don't have a lot of faith in the VA though. I have a very good cardiologist and would like to keep him.

It's hard to have faith in the VA and 60 miles is a longgg...drive. I live in Florida too, so I guess I wouldn't be able to get a medigap policy either? I was thinking possibly in the future I might need one. That's discrimination against us young uns.

Yes I think it is also. Especially since my fil is in worse shape than me and he is able to purchase it for half of what I am paying through my wife for group insurance. Don't get me wrong I am very fortunate to be able to have group coverage, but if she looses her job I am screwed. I just think this needs to change. I am writting to politicians trying to at least voice my opinion.
