Loved Ones who support someone with MS Community Group
This group is meant for those who help someone with MS. This would include family, good friends, spouses and caregivers. It is a place to exchange good ideas that may help us in caring for those we love that have this disease.
2 Tests: They relate to Immunity and Inflammation
EPagain
I would suggest getting two tests from your doctors because MS involves immune process and inflammation. Since 70-80% of immunity is found in the gut and GI stimulates a good chunk of the inflammation in the body doing testing on the GI seems warranted.
1.) Life Extension Food Safety Allergy test done. Most docs ONLY look at IgE severe allergy inducing Antibody.
The above tests looks at Severe IgE AND chronic IgG antibodies for 95 foods. If I can find a test that looks at 3 antibodies for 60 foods I'll dump this test and upgrade but so far it is the best I have found.
( IF you find a better one please post the test/lab in a reply to this post)
2.) MetaMetrix Labs (in GA) has the best GI 2100 Function Test I have found available for the general public. It is silver standard in GI testing.
Gold standard testing , to me a non-medical professional, would be a full DNA analysis of the bacteria in the GI. However, I have only found this available in clinical research facilities that are not open to the general public. *** IF ANYONE finds a lab doing full DNA bacterial workup on the GI, that is open to the public, PLEASE Post and send to my email.
If you have too many bad bacteria/deficient in good bacteria you will up-regulate inflammation and immune response which you do NOT want in an autoimmune disease. You can call the lab and ask for docs in your area that script this test then cross reference with your insurance to see which one will help cover the costs.
If you are interested in this type of testing. Then read the below reply, PRINT OFF the research and bring it to your appointment. So you can discuss your options with a medical professional.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

It tests for the chemicals that cause IgM, IgA, IgD, IgG immune response. This would include but is not limited to Prostaglandins (PGs), Leukotrienes (LTs), histamines, cytokines, etc.

It would be interesting to have a test just to ensure that the money I'm spending on this stuff is warranted. I will be asking about that again.
When you think of all the people who have been exposed to antiobiotics and steroids, it's no wonder that some of these researchers suspect that just about 100% of the population has gut bacteria issues.
MRT test in reply #2 at the very least is a good way to reduce antibody causing foods that inflame the GI, reduce absorption of nutrient and up regulate immune response. The Metametrix test, in original post, is good if you continue to have issues after avoiding antigen foods in MRT test. Both are a good way to find what is at root cause of some of your symptoms.
Lorrie if you do get any testing please list what you had done (lab/lab test) results, and if you did anything that ended up helping you. Good Luck to you.
