Liver Enzymes and C.R.A.B medications
EPagain
Most know that Copaxone, Rebif, Avonex and Betaseron plus other medications require periodic liver enzyme tests. I don't think many people think much about this so I am making this post. Later in this post I am going to cover some of the many things your liver does for you. It is important that if you are stressing your liver with extra burden of things like these medications that you try to be easy on your liver in other ways. Since a healthy LIVEr lets us LIVE well.
------------------------
Hepat-itis means liver-inflammation. Many things can trigger this but to understand more about the causes you need to understand what your liver does.
The liver does the following things:
1.) Recycles the hemoglobin off your red blood cells (RBCs) which die every 120 days but you make like 5 million RBC per minute so this is a huge job in itself.
2.) Filters toxins out of the blood
3.) Processes VITAMINS ie D your skin makes into 25 hydroxy-vitamin D3 (once kidney processes it further it is a message to gut to absorb calcium)
4.) ***** Processes most MEDICATIONS you take
5.) Processes HORMONES ie sex hormones
6.) Makes bile to help emulsify FAT so you can absorb it (used for skin, brain, cells, some hormones)
7.) Works in conjunction with the pancreas to break down SUGAR and store it
8.) Makes enzymes (chains of amino acids aka PROTEINS)
etc, etc,
So the liver can easily get over worked and damage done to it effects its ability to do the above, and more, tasks. Viruses can attack the liver to cause inflammation (most people think of this when they hear hepatitis). However alcohol, drugs and autoimmune problems can cause issues with inflammation too. I would think certain bacteria could damage it but I digress. I don't know all the medications that could cause problems, obviously the CRAB MS drugs can, here is a list of other meds I looked up.

Usually I get a daily influx of emails on health topics. An article from Dr. Mercola really stood out recently though because it mentioned that fat cells have their own mitochondria. Not only was this the first I'd heard of this, he also mentioned that fat serves a purpose in our metabolism. Another new factoid for me. The bottom line for me was to appreciate that even our fat cells play a...

I just do not feel well and I really think that it's because I cried yesterday on my way to work about my Aunt who is in the hospital. I don't think that we will have her much longer. She is very frail. Now she needs help eating. So, this is the third time in a year that I felt this way after crying. I think crying releases toxins into my body. I also worked up a sweat at the gym...

It goes over how High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) effects the liver much like, but not quite as bad as, ethonal. The reason I am posting because our livers do so much and when you have to take medications and periodic steroids as much as those with MS have to you are already burdening your livers. Eating less fructose can help your liver, pancreas, etc.

It goes over how sugar, lectin, gluten, etc affect those with Celiac and impacts on those with autoimmune diseases.
Summary
min 28- 30 how sugary pop with crude soponans (sp?) can cause an effect on immune system.
min 29 The question is can it precipitate an autoimmune disease?
min 33 lectin in beans is inactivated by heat used in proper cooking methods
min 37 prolamins (gluten)
min 38 gluten problematic in Celiacs and autoimmune populations by neg affecting tight junctions in GI
min 42 inulin has the negative effect of increasing gram neg and sometimes gram positive bacteria in the gut negatively impacting gut permeability ( some people refer to this as leaky gut)
