how to stop clonidine

I AM ON CLONIDINE 1MG TWICE ADAY. THE DR IS THINKING ABOUT STOPPING THE MECICTION IT MAKES ME A LITTLE NERVOUS I READ IT COULD CAUSE REBOUND HYERTENSION. HAS ANY ONE TOOK THIS AND HOW DID YOU TAPER OFF AND DID YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS AFTER STOPPING THANKS

Is "rebound hypertention" another way of saying that you are physically addicted to it? -

I had not been on this but a week or so. With a NEW doctor, just stopped it. I did not have any problems stopping it. Think it had given me really bad depression. Despondent feeling.
Rebound hypertension is when you stop taking it, your BP goes up even higher than it was. My old doctor had me taking it only when my BP went over 160/100. I ended up taking it every other day, and with each "rebound" my BP went even higher, so I was never getting anywhere. When it hit 199/122 UNDER DOCTOR'S INSTRUCTIONS! I "fired" that doctor and was taken off of it immediately by another doctor. I've not regretted it and will NEVER take it again! -

Thank you SheiLou. I do not understand why more people don't fire their doctors, they just continue blindly following any advice any dr gives them.
