The optimist in us all-

Posted on 03/06/09, 12:02 am
So I've been reading a few books for some of my classes and it got me thinking...
Why in our society today does it seem that more people tend to view the glass half empty, intead of half full? Sure these times are rough, and there are more people suffering for health, money, relationship, and so forth problems everyday- but is that really the reason we're so quick to think and jump into those negitive thoughts?
I have some friends and family members who- no matter the situation see the worst in everything. 9 times out of 10 a negitive comment of some form is escaping their mouth. Do other people find this to be true- do you know people(or maybe you are one) who has negitive and pessimistic attitudes and that's just how they are?
Is there a solution to help the masses think and have more positive attitudes?
Just throwing these thoughts out there. I tend to be more of an optimistic, glass half full type of person so I'm just trying to better understand what tohers think about negitivity.

When someone asks me how I am doing, I always reply "GREAT! How are you?".
I have had a few people say something like alright or OK and then change it to "I am doing great". Just because bad things happen, does not mean we need to be negative. Negativity grows like a cancer, so I try to stop or avoid it as much as I possibly can. Sometimes I would just like to say to people "quitcherbitchin". I see more and more of the old saying, misery loves company. But not my company.

Well for me it depends on what all is going on.

Well everyone has shit days, but when they are just permanently miserable, whingey gits I try to understand them but don't get sucked into there negativity. If they have a mental illness it's different cos moods can fluctuate. I know from having bipolar myself that one minute I can be fine & the next I'm a miserable git, who doesn't want to be around people & I see the negative in everything. However that is just my bipolar talking & it's not who I am. In general I'm quite optomistic & see the funny side of life.

I find myself being negative or at least looking for it.. In most case by looking for it your not disappointed when it happens. I think there is a difference between being negative and talking about whats going on, not in detail but just kind of skirting it. It is the human way to confess and discuss. If you have a monster load freshly dumped on you of course your response is going to be dictated by it. Does that make them negative or someone that likes to express how bad it is for them at the moment? I don't really have a problem with negativity but i do have issues with whiners. I have no time for that.
