I need to know how to find a knowledgable doctor

Posted on 11/06/08, 04:31 pm
I am currently suffering from crohn's disease and have been for about a year or more. I am reluctant to start on a round of steroids as i know the side effects can be very harsh and hard to manage. I have been trying to research as much as i can about LDN but it seems that because clinical trials are not fully completed and it may take years for this to happen, most physicians know very little about it.

My philosophy is that, if the side effects of this drug are so minimal, it would be worth a try, even if i had no improvement.

But my copay for a doctor is ridiculous and i cant go doctor hopping to find one that knows something about it.

Does anyone know of a resource where i can find a doctor who knows about LDN? I live in the Los Angeles area in the San Fernando Valley.
I really want to try this before moving to the serious stuff.
(currently taking Lialda, with no improvement)

Please, if you have any suggestions, let me know. I'm desperate.

Here is Brenda's forum where you can get help on docs. You can also order the 50 mg tabs from Canada or Mexico without a script and make your own. My husband crushes them and dissolves them in distilled water. One tab and 50 milliliters of water. Each ml equals one mg, so he takes 4.5.

I take mine liquid form also. Buy it from Canada from River Pharmacy, as I found it was the cheapest. 50mil of distilled water for one 50 mg tablet. Dissolve, shake, store in fridge for up to 2 weeks. 3mg or up to 4.5mg is your goal.
    Best,

I think with the liquid it is better to take it as late as possible. I tried it for a while and my bladder was worse. Someone suggested it might go into effect too early before endorphins are being made. If I go back to it, I will do it at 11 p.m.

My doctor in California who prescribes medical marijuana (Charges $250 a year, $150 if you are poor or on dissability), prescribed LDN to me for free as part of my anual fee and follow up.

I decided to get 90 caps of 1.5mg so I could control my dose until I figure out what works for me. I am giving LDN another chance.

I get 1.5 caps and usually take 2 (3.0) but when I want to try 4.5 for any length of time, I have the option. costs me a little more but it's worth it

I have the name of a doctor who will prescribe. He will also prescribe you medical marijuana, possibly by phone consultation if you already have a diagnosis. You will have to pay him for the yearly service, but he could prescribe if if your doctor wont.
