Hereditary.

Soo another topic..just trying to get some discussions going!:)

Does anyone know if IBS is Hereditary?!

My mother has IBS as well, but her she doesn't seem to be effected by it much. She is a very private person, Im not sure if that is why Im not seeing the effects, or if she has just gotten used to it. She is IBS/C..while I am IBS C/D.

Does anyone else have family members with IBS?!

Just wondering...

My son is 5. While I do not think he has IBS, he is starting to show signs of my lactose deficiency. He always has a tummy ache after milk, ice cream or cheese. We've switched to Soy Milk and that seems to be helping.

My IBS started right after my parents divorce (I was in my late 20's). I wonder if you always have it but sometimes it doesn't start showing signs until something significantly stressful happens...

Strange bit of info though - when I was pregnant...my only craving was milk...I drank a gallon a day for the first and second trimester...maybe I overloaded him??!!!??

Seems pretty obvious to me that parts of this are hereditary but the doctors tell me the same thing...not hereditary.

Out of seven kids 5 girls & 2 brothers. Four girls & one brother had this problem. My Aunt has had this problem. I do not want to hear a Dr. say it is not hereditary. Some of us are worse than others but we all have the same symtons. Plus 4 of us have sugar problems. When we don't eat we have horrible weak spells. So there is no winning.

My mother and sister have IBS as well, but like you with your mother it does not seem to effect them as much as it does me. My sister is kinda private about it so I am not sure how she handles it. My mother is able to socialize and eat out as if she did not have the condition. I think that it is hereditary.

me and my daughter have it . but my son doesn't. so i don't know if it is or not. i guess my mom said i have always had trouble and so has my daughter . she had to take meds when she can't go but i have to get it frm the dr. it is not an over the counter med.

i think it might run in families my brother has it too... well he does not go to the doctor but he has the same symptoms i do.... so i say he has it too... my mom says we have it because we are such nervous people and in part its true... she tries to get me to drink teas to calm my nerves maybe i should try it one day.... my husband says its all in my head... and my budd says who cares if you poop on yourself.. but its not that easy for me to think about.... i went to a psychologist once and just talking about it made me feel better but it was weird thinking that i needed a psych so i quit going... i wish i had some buds who lived near by so we could all go out... you know asking them to stop for a potty break when ever needed and not getting those weird looks...
