A favorite fall memory

Posted on 11/06/09, 06:49 am
One fall, my late sister, mother, great nephew, and I went for a long ride in the country. My great-nephew was only three and was so adorable then. Our conversation and laughter will live forever in my mind and heart. The trees were at their peak in color. They were beautiful in their oranges, reds, yellows, and bronzes. We stopped at an orchard where they gave free samples of cider and apples. We bought cider, doughnuts, apples, and other good things to eat. Then, we sat at an outdoor picnic table they had there and ate some of our freshly baked doughnuts and cider. I know this sounds morbid, but on the way back, we stopped at an old graveyard and walked around looking at the tombstones. There was something spiritual about it. While being outside, deep in the country amidst the fall leaves, I remember the crisp air and can almost smell the leaves and hear the crunch of them under my feet as we walked.
I will never forget that day, and I am thankful for that memory.
