Wow, I am so surprised that there is someone else on here that was born with hip dysplasia! However, my doctor was a monumental idiot, and I was never casted or had surgery to rectify my hips, so now, at 23, I am facing a major double hip replacement. It SUCKS. If the doc had casted me when I was born, I wouldn't have the stupid pain I do these days. Its not constant, but somehow that makes it worse, because its more like a sharp knife sticking me in the hip every now and then. I can't exercise, because my hips seize up. I can't wear high heels because I literally fall, because my hips slide out of socket.
Anyway, I am looking for info from anyone that has gone through surgery. My hips never bothered me much till I went through puberty and they got wider, and when I finally saw an ortho, he said not to worry about it till I was older. Well, I am tired of not being able to do normal things, so I am looking into replacement surgery. Any suggestions or stories are appreciated!

I have had 14 major hip surgeries to be able to walk like everyone else. I live with pain every day. I have gone through two surgeons. When I was a child, I was in a hip spika cast that went from my ankle to my chest.

Try to get in touch with Dr. Jeffery Mast. He was my doctor and did reconstruction, rather than replacement. The last I heard he was practicing in Arizona.
