Welcome.....

I imagine that you have come to this group because you felt that you were a Highly Sensitive Person, you know someone who is, or you simply want more information about highly sensitive people. Well, you have come to the correct place.

The term highly sensitive person was coined by Dr. Elaine N. Aron in 1996, and the name is gaining popularity because it presents the trait in a positive light. According to Dr. Elaine Aron, being a highly sensitive person (HSP) is an inherited trait that is characterized by an overactive nervous system. HSPs process and absorb more emotional and physical information than average, making them abnormally overwhelmed.

To begin, you should take the Self-Test that is offered on Dr. Aron’s Website entitled The Highly Sensitive Person. The test defines the trait better than anything else.

If you find you are a highly sensitive person, the following points that might help you:

~ This trait is normal. It is inherited by 15 to 20% of the population

~ Your nervous system is more sensitive to subtleties of life. While your sight, hearing and sense of smell is not necessarily keener, you brain processes and reflects on information more deeply.

~ You tend to be more easily overly stimulated, stressed out and overwhelmed.

~ The lack of research on the subject of high sensitivity is the reason that in our culture, an outgoing and tough personality is considered ideal.

The Good News!

The Highly Sensitive Person:

~ Has a heightened sense of awareness to subtleties in the environment

~ Tends to be very creative Is conscientious and hard-working

~ Has the ability to be very organized

~ Enjoys nature, the arts, and music

~ May have a deep, rich inner life, be very spiritual, and have an active imagination

~ Tends to be very intuitive

Rejoice in Your Sensitivity!

Recognize and rejoice in your high sensitivity. You should consider it to be a beautiful and powerful gift with which you were blessed! If you're new to identifying yourself or have never met another HSP, it can be isolating to feel so different. In time, we hope you'll see yourself as the wonder you really are. The goal of this group is to explore what it is like to be highly sensitive and to support one another.
