Welcome on board. Dont know what I have, or more to the point dont have. Depends on which doctor I see and what mood cardiologist is in.

Hi! This caught my eye as I'm scrolling through groups...I have a Mitral Valve Prolapse. I guess there may not be much to discuss on this topic? A lot of people have murmurs and unless it is a bad one that bothers you, you rarely think about it. But I noticed your handle is "communicator" and that is so weird because one of my email addressed is "comunik8or"! Anyway, I just joined DS and finding people with similarities is blowing my mind so far. This is one example!

I was born with it. All they new in 1971 was that I had "a murmur." Being in Alabama, my parents would take me down to Birmingham, "The Cardiological Mecca of the South" (another doc said to me once), every so often for check-ups. This was pretty much just an X-ray and EKG for years. But then, technology happened. Nothing like today with MRIs, but they got a Doppler machine. It showed us finally that I did not have a "hole" in my valve, but that the valve simply doesn't close all the way. I was released from my pediatric cardiologist's care at age 18.
It never bothers me, except remembering to take antibiotics before any dental appointment. Which, I was like "*roll eyes* Whatever!" about, until my father-in-law, who also has a MVP, skipped his and ended up with an infection. He was very sick! So, it is true, that can and DOES happen. Take your antibiotics! ;-)
