steamed vegetables...
Posted on 06/01/09, 06:49 pm
I know that steamed vegetables are the best for us to eat. However, I have a hard time steaming them in the microwave. When I put the veggie into the bowl, I put a little water in it, put the lid on it and then nuke it. The top of the veggie seems dry, chewy and not tasty while the part near the water is good.
Any suggestions would be appreciated..

try putting the veggies in a bag and pop a couple of holes in the bag...they will naturally steam themselves....smile:) -

thanks, I will try this. Someone also suggested bags that you can buy to put foods in but this sounds much more economical. -

I use a specially designed bowl that came with a cafe steamers meal. It was worth the 3 bucks just for the bowl! -

Veggies steamed hold there nutrients better, but the truth is you wont get the best of there vitamins if done in the microwave. You don't need to buy fancy equipment all you need is one stove element 1 pot fill with water use a sieve put your veggies inn then place a lid on top.I have always wanted one of those fancy steamers but this does it just the same. That way you really get the goodness out of your veggies & i am not anti microwaves.
Had a kid with Cancer & was told not to use a microwave. So i just got use to cooking the way my Mum did. :-) -
