High Five

Oh they know their shepherd. In '07 we had two of our ewes serviced and wanted the other two done as well so put them in with our neighbour's mob and his ram. As food was not all that plentiful he put all the mob out onto the court so they could eat the grass on the roadside. Including our two. Nice thought - but. when he tried to put them back into the paddock out two decided - Nup, you are not our shepherd, we are NOT going to listen to you and went off down the road (it is a dead end) and too about half his mob with them. He was soooooo cranky and came and got my DH and all DH did was call them, they came running back to him and in our gate and I then called them and got them back with the rest of out mob. Never again our neighbour is adamant, you want them in lamb you have the ram in YOUR place. Yes they knew us and obeyed us. Ours not only know when it is feeding time they demand it and if it is late do they kick up a stink. And as soon as DH opens the gate they are at the trough pushing and shoving to get the best food. Why do you bathe them? The only bath ours get are if it rains (not likely here for a long time) and then they go into their shelters anyway.

We have 14 sheep and 8 of them are ewes and 2 of them are wethers for butchering for the year. We will hopefully auction most of them off this summer. I just love having them around. Like when its feeding time it's like they recognize you and know it's feeding time. I just hate giving them bathes though because there is no way possible to keep from getting wet. Now I am just jabbering. It's great to know that I am not the only one who likes lambs/sheep.

Welcome Lamblover. I love lambs, ours have grown already this year but I love being able to hand feed them as they are just do much fun, soft and sometimes even cuddly. Next year we will rest our ewes and then mate again the following year. - we only have 11 sheep with 6 ewes plus one old one and the rest are wethers for butchering. Hope that you enjoy our group, it is really good fun.
