what is normal???

Posted on 10/04/09, 09:34 pm
My baby girl is one month old and was 8lb 1oz when she was born. I weighed her today and she's 12 1/2lbs already! Is that big for a one month old? That means that she has gained over 4lbs in one month (3 of those were within the past 2 weeks).

Also, how much is normal for a baby her age to eat every feeding? She eats about every 3 hours and usually eats atleast 5oz (sometimes up to 6.5oz) per feeding. I am breastfeeding(only pumping and bottle feeding) and I can't keep up! I have to supplement with formula because I only get 4-5oz when I pump. What really made me worry is that my friend had a baby 3 weeks before me and her baby only eats 3oz per feeding. My baby is younger and sometimes eats twice that! I don't want to over-feed her, but she acts so hungry and sucks it down like she's starving when I offer it to her. I have tried just offering her a pacifier, incase she just wants to suck, but she spits it out and screams bloody murder until I give her more to eat. I plan to ask her dr about it at her next appointment, but that isn't for another month. Is this a stupid thing to call and ask about?

Anyone else go through this? Any info or advice would be great. Thank you!
