first trimester, no appetite

Posted on 08/16/10, 12:58 pm
Hi, i am 9 weeks so far, but for the last 3 weeks i haven't been able to eat. All that seems to go down is some fruit, or a sandwich. Everything else seems to come out. I have no appetite for anything, yet I'm hungry. Starting to worry if the proper nutrients are reaching my baby and will this sickness ever pass?

It is very common not to be able to eat in the 1st trimester. Some woman actually loose weight b/c of this and that's okay. I am 15 weeks pregnant with twins and have only gained about 7 lbs. I had no appetite the first 12-13 weeks. The 2nd and 3rd timester ar emore important as that's when the baby really pulls the nutrients from you.

As long as you keep something down, and hopefully keep down some vitamins. If pre-natal vitamins are too much for your tummy, I recommend a kid's vitamin. That's what I did anyway. But I always hear that baby takes what they need from their mother, and mothers get what's left over, lol. I hope this helps. I know you're pain...

I will be 7 weeks tomorrow and feel exactly the sane way. Watermelon and popsicles have been pretty much the only things working for me so far. I was told the important thing is to keep hydrated. Also, a friend suggested protein shakes to get some calories and nutrients. I'll try that tomorrow, see how it works out. I was just so worried I wasn't eating enough! It should get better soon.

Oooo, watermelon is my favorite during pregnancy, lol. Also try eating some saltine crackers or plain toast.

I am 5 weeks and I am the same way. I talked to my OB about this and she said not to worry and the baby's nutrients are the prenatal vitamins and as long as I take them, I will be okay. Try not to worry too much about it. Your OB knows best. Best wishes to you
