Teaching my children

Posted on 10/24/09, 10:20 pm
I am a single mom of two boys; one is 2 and the other 4. they pray every night before bed, and when I can I try and show them all the great things God has given us. (The trees, flowers, sun, moon, stars) I try to pray with them before we eat although i dont eat with them often because Im taking 4 online college classes and spend most of my time doing that. My older son is having a lot of nightmares lately. He has a lot of anger issues and about 3 months ago we had a short talk about where those bad thought come from. I was very nervous about this topiv, I wasnt sure how to bring it on a 4 year old. So I told him about adam and eve (which we have read about from his childrens bible and veggie tales books) and how there was a bad angel that was kicked out of heaven. It was a very brief conversations but the other night he kept telling me he was having bad dreams. He was awake so they were actually thoughts he was having about a boy from school standning in a puddle with blood on his hands. now my son avery has had dreams like this before that have gotten me a little scared. He was TERRIFIED even next to me, he was shaking and crying. Eventually he went to sleep. I dont know how to help him through this, and how to use God to show him. I want them to love God, and grow up as Christians, and knowing the truth, but I dont know how much is too much, and how I can incoopereate God into their lives in a fun and loving way that they will enjoy.. any suggestions?

Also.. he told me the other night the "bad angel was making him think bad and scary things" he said " I want to tell him go away bad angel go bug somebody else, mom will you pray with me?" SO Im a little weary about the topic of satan with a four year old. thats a lot to put on a kid, also, I dont want him having a hard time in preschool if he brings any of this up, but I want him to know the truth. Im stuck :(

There isn't any hard and fast rules I don't think. You have to listen to what they are asking (or saying) and answer just that. He is obviously aware that someone or thing is giving him those bad thoughts. You need to give him the tools to fight. Simply teach him the way the Lord teaches us...in the name of Jesus I rebuke you. Jesus loves me and I belong to Him. He needs the assurance that he has the power given by God. The truth is, we even as children may suffer for our faith. Give him good solid foundations to stand on and he will be fine. Good luck. :)
