Ok i am curious, when i did see a pdoc 3 times her idea of rapic cycling was over months or at worse weeks.

My idea of rapid cycling can be days or even hours, which is why i told i can cycle too quickly to be BP.

So what is your definition or experience of rapid cycling?

My pdoc said the definition is four or more times a year.

well if it isn't my BP doing it to me I would love to know what it really is . Ask your docs what they think causes it and let me know. And if the weekly moods only came 4 or 5 times a year I would think I was normal and all my sweeties here .... normal is not the Lisa

My pdoc, who is world reknowned in bipolar disorder, says that I'm an "ultradian cycler". That means I can cycle daily and at prior to medications, on rare occasions change after several hours. I don't cycle that rapidly any longer. But I do "rapid cycle" in that my moods do change "quickly" ie. I can feel depressed for several days and then suddenly better for a day or two. I'm dx as bp 1. Very rapid cyclers can be bp.

I'm an ultra rapid cycler and it's always been 3 days or so, but I have had peroids when it's been a few hours. My pdoc also said the few hours thing basically didn't happen, but as they don't know everything, I'd to know a real explanation! I'm certainally not imagining it happened! Now I'm on medication my cycles have cut down to a few days, to 2 weeks more or less.

I am told thought that the definition of a rapid cycler is 4 or more mood changes in a year.

I am type 2 by the way.

i have had times when i changed several times in a day which completely freaked me out, but most of the time it is a matter of weeks or days..

i get the two types confused constantly, but my downs are more extreme and last a lot longer, but they are alway directly behind a high, wshich can be anything from just being weirdly happy to bouncing off the walls at 3 am after 2 hours sleep, blah blah blah!

I found these definitions via google:

Ultradian states in bipolar disorder cycle much faster than rapid cycling, which is defined as four or more mood episodes in one year, sometimes occurring within a few weeks. Ultradian mood cycling is characterized by cycles shorter than 24 hours.

My definition: sure ISN'T 4 time a year!!!!
In the past year I have gotten so bad that I am now only sleep 33 hours A WEEK.....because I am manic, but it's so freakin confusing because the depression is as severe as the mania and whatever the dsmIV says...just reinforces that the people writing have never experienced it! I never thought it could get THIS bad! and I can't STOP! Slept through 2 nights after pulling another 72 hours and am feeling ready to go at it again.....Damn.

That is how it is bro...

Talk to your doc, meds (or less of them) can improve some your situation, not your sleeping habits, but your whole state of mind. Be patient, may take some time.

    Hold on. Don't loose it.
