What are your skills?
Posted on 04/15/09, 10:49 pm
What can you do? Cook? Run an efficient house? Are you creative or handy with tools? There is a reason for me asking, which I will reveal in another post. No skill is too silly or trivial. Some of the most awesome ideas are the simplest. We all know post it note and paper clips, right. How much more simple can you get, and yet they made their inventors rich.

I'm a good cook. I mess up a dish occasionally, but I'm pretty good with food. Especially desserts.
I'm great at typing. I learn fast (trying to learn Spanish right now). I'm great with people. I can deal with the public even at times when I'm screaming inside. I'm great at finding bargains. My kids can go two weeks without me doing laundry, and they still have matching clothes everyday. That's thanks to Goodwill and garage sales. I find name brand clothes in good condition during the wrong season for the clothes, and then store them in plastic containers until the season is right and they fit the kids. I think we're ready for this coming summer season, almost. I'm really creative. That comes in handy to make due with what we have during the bad times. Problem solving requires a bit of creativity. I'm pretty productive. When I moved into this huge house where we live now, it was in a terrible state. (I live with my dad, my parents got divorced 3 years ago and he didn't ever clean anything) It's still has "problem areas" but it's in a clean enough state that people can come over and I don't die from embarrassment. So far, I've completely redone five rooms. I've hauled out a dumpster of garbage. I've shampooed all the rugs (thanks to my steam vac that I could NOT live without). I've retrained his dog to mind his doggy manners.
I'm really good at doing research. Anytime I want to know anything, I find all my answers quickly online.
I use good grammar. The way you speak shows something about yourself. It shows a bit of respect for the person you are talking to.
I'm great at writing papers. Last semester, I had a class where every week we had to turn in a three to six page paper. I got an A on all of them.
I can make sweet tea like a southerner. I mean it, my tea is really good.
I know how to lose or gain weight. This may sound trivial, but a lot of people can't control their weight. I've mastered this. It's a science.
I can fix a lot of things. The creativity helps here, because I've never been around tools and things like that. Yet I can still find the problem and figure out what to do about it.
Wow, this is long. Sorry, I just felt like today would be a good day to talk about how great I am, with me having a job interview at noon, I should start trying to sell myself now.
Okay, let me sum all this up:
Meg's skills: Cooking, fast at learning, good with people, can easily find good bargains, creative, good at problem solving, productive, good at deep cleaning, can train dogs, research, grammar, and writing long papers. I think this posts proves my "long writing". Oh, and I can drive a stick. -

You're awesome Meg, and it is good to see you have a sense of what you do best. You could use your talents easily. Never be afraid to know you are good at something, or to promote yourself. I am glad you are here. Do check out HubPages, and get going on some writing for pay, you might be awesome. Especially if you can translate your own blog into Spanish. -
