New Medicine for Fibromyalgia

Posted on 09/29/09, 12:50 am
Has anyone heard of a new medicine for the Fibromyalgia pain? I think I saw someone on here mention it once. I take Lyrica and I am having a lot of problems with weight gain and swelling. The problem is that whenever I try to get off of the Lyrica, I have sooo much pain that is so intense that I can not stand it. I don't think I can stand all of this pain much more. I know that Fibromyalgia causes all this muscle pain and other symtoms but does anybody elses BONES hurt? It feels like my bones have been broken at times. I am afraid to use my fingers sometimes because it feels like they are about to snap. Does anyone else have this symtom? I was curious. Sometimes I think that maybe I have something else going on. I do know that I have osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and COPD. I just feel like I have something else going on and the Dr. stoped looking when they found out I had 14 tender points. Just curios.

I am in the same boat. I have Fibromyalgia so bad and am on Lyrica and was on Cymbalta. I was having so many side effects from Cymbalta so the DR. took me off cold turkey. The pain is so much worse and I am having major hot flashes/cold sweats. I Have gain so much weight. There is a new medicine out but so afraid to take it after reading the side effects from it. It is called Savella you can ask your DR about it and see what she says about it. Now my DR wants to send me to a pain DR. She said she can't help me anymore. I feel your pain.

Thank you cajunladyla. I believe I have reached the point to where the Lyrica is not going to help me. I still have major pain while taking it but the pain is very worse when I don't take it. The weight gain is terrible. My daughter tells me to exercise, thats what helps her Mother n law. When I do try to exercise, I hurt so bad for days after. I do good just walking around the house.
I can't believe that there is a medical illness that causes so much pain and most dr.s do not believe in it.
I watch my granbabies because they give me a reason to get up and move. I don't go anywhere for weeks at a time.
I am glad to know there are others who share my fate although I am sorry you suffer so.

People do not understand this awful pain that we are having, they think we are faking most of it or it is in our heads. All my pain pills muscle relaxers are not even helping anymore. I got up this morning in so much pain my whole left leg and hip was stiff as board. My DR is going to send me to a pain DR. Mon. Not sure if that will help they don't believe in medicines. The pool does help some but I can't get there often without a car. My daughter told me the other day that i am always hurting. And I told her yes I do and I can't help it that pain pills are not helping me so it makes me worse. I use to walk in the parks and I really miss that a lot. My prayers are with you and hope that you fine something that helps.

I hear your pain guys. I too suffer from fribro. It sucks! Just remember that we have to keep moving and that we have to keep finding new doctors that will pay attention to us. There are doctors out there that will listen and do believe you. Also you probably have other overlapping conditions that is causing other symptoms like IC, and IB. You need to see specialist to address these issues separately. It is all part of the Fibro. Also you can get some of you meds in lower dosages like for example muscle relaxers. That way you can still have the relief with out the side effect of always being sleepy. I know I sound like I have all the answers, but I don't. I suffer daily also. I am feeling a bit down right now myself. I am on Lyrica but do not have trouble with weight gain. I do weight watchers. It helps me control what I eat. Hugs to you both:)

I have gotten to the point that Lyrica is not helping anymore. I It is so hard to get out of bed at times. I have IC and other problems because of this. My DR told me that Fibro can cause so much more then people think. I am going to see a pain DR Mon and there going to give me some kind of pain block in my back. I will not have insurance as of Nov 1. I can not get Medicaid due to that fact that my husband makes to much money. Go figure. I have no idea what I am going to do now. It scares me to think about it. I have made myself sick over it.

many docs do not realize or think to wean ppl off of things.
many ppl end up very sick or in extreme pain from not being weaned off of meds.
lyrica is 1 that you defenitely have to be weaned off of.
one of my friends 80 yr old mother went to an early grave from not being weaned off of a med, it sent her into dt's then shock.
you should always look up your meds online.
one of my docs gave me 3 different meds at different times throughout the yrs that would've had bad reactions to other meds I was on.
so be careful, docs do many a yrs of studying, but cannot know everything.

No they don't cowboy and to top it off I asked them if hot flash/cold sweats are side effects they said no. Well, put 2&2 together. I was not having them before. Or the headaches. DR. think they no everything well I don't agree. I am going to go to this place that has helped many people with fibro it is called hallelujah acres. It is a place that teaching you to eat the right kinds of foods and get me off some of this medicines. I leave Nov 15 and will be gone for 5 days. I am so looking forward to this. I read up on fibro and what is some of the worse things you can eat and drink.. Meat was one main thing and caffeine. So this is the last weekend I will be eating meat. The caffeine will be winged off.
