Sleep with a SHEEP for fibro

A new nonpharmacological method in fibromyalgia: The use of wool

Print Email This Article Save in My Library Free Abstract Kiyak EK - Study shows that use of woolen underwear and woolen bedding were effective in reducing the symptoms of patients suffering from fibromyalgia. The use of wool is recommended as a means of treatment for alleviating the pain in these pts.

Methods
Study aims to assess the effect of wool use in pts with fibromyalgia
Experimental design: 50 pts, distributed equally into 2 groups: a control group and a treatment group
Pts in the treatment group:
wore woolen underwear, covering the body from shoulders to the thighs
used woolen bedding such as woolen bed liner
woolen quilt and pillow
All pts were assessed at the beginning and the end of 6th wk
Data collected using the VAS (0–10), tender points count, and Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire

Results
Pts in the treatment group reported significant improvements in their conditions
There was reduction in pain levels, tender point counts, and all scores of the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire

    Interesting, I wonder how this holds up to allergies? I know when I wear cheap wool, I get itchy. Thanks for the info, I'll check into this some more.

    BTW, how is your bedroom painting coming along? How does it look? Pretty, I bet!

    Ita all finished, finally. Even got the drapes made and hung up. bought a couple prints at an art show for the wall. looks pretty good.

    Now I am working on a quilt for my daughter made from all her sorority teeshirts when she was in college. I never made one before so its trial and error, lets say a slow work in progress.

    The trigger point book I bought has really helped my fibro. Learning how to work out those tenderpoints gives alot of relief.

    That was my first thought was itchy wool, maybe we need to buy expensive wool. Wonder if cashmere would work. No its probably itchy wool and how it works you are itching so much you cant feel the pain. lol

    What if you live in a hot climate? Is there a product that would be cool, cuz down here we have to run the air 10 mos/yr...(or I do anyway, with all the hot flashes! LOL)

    I'm allergic to all woolens Not for me.
